    Pros

Treat executive management fairly well. Had a fairly normal 5 day work week. Very good balance of work and personal life.

    Cons

Treated sales employees terribly. Sometimes made decisions that did not seem cost effective.

    Advice to Management

You would have less turnover in sales if you treated the employees better.

    Pros

Learn a lot about fashion and good quality products. Promote from within based on sales. And shoes is a commission based.

    Cons

Some managers are young and could be trained better.

    Pros

Good sales associates can earn more than the average wage in a retail setting. The current trend is to promote young associates into beginning management positions as Area Sales Managers (ASM). The company is always looking for management talent, especially college graduates with a concentration in Fashion categories.

    Cons

Associate performance is based, primarily, on meeting an assigned Sales Per Hour (SPH) goal which, in theory, would motivate sales associates to reach or exceed their sales goal to earn a higher rate of pay. First, it directly conflicts with the higher company mission of "5 Star Service." Associates are told they can take their customer into any area of the store to assist the customer with their selections, which is part of 5 Star Service. However, as you might imagine, the associates become territorial and resent others for coming into their area taking sales away from them. Secondly, even though the SPH is supposedly determined for each area, all areas are inherently going to be unequal. The impact of SPH performance measurement does not create healthy competition, but an environment of conflict. It also strips the ASM of the ability to judge an associates performance based on all criteria central to their department. Additionally, it penalizes the associate who performs other work critical to maintaining the department. Finally, I would suggest that Area Managers, as well as associates, are not given the necessary tools in a timely manner, if at all, to perform their duties more effectively. Communication is lacking at every level and is often contradictory.

    Advice to Management

There is a need for better training at all levels in the stores. There are many young ASM's who lack either the time or ability to train their associates and to communicate with them effectively. Often, associates are training other associates but lack the necessary skills. Consistency is an issue with regard to policy and practice from store to store. Understandibly, there will be some differences between them, however, corporate policy should be the same everywhere. Recruiting is another area which needs to be addressed. At present, the stores are primarily responsible for finding talented new recruits. However, most stores lack the tools required and personnel qualified to do so.

    Pros

Great work environment. Great if competitive. Good opportunity to set your own hourly pay. I really liked my job! Great discounts also!

    Cons

The cons would be, it's really hard to get raises if you don't meet your raise goal. Of you're below your raise goal you either get a pay cut or either get fired.

    Advice to Management

Be more supportive to employees, listen to them more, and please don't micromanage. Other than that! You guys are awesome!

    Pros

Very easy to move up in the company. Always a lot of movement. Hard work gets noticed

    Cons

Sometimes there's a lot of differing directions from many different people.

    Advice to Management

Sometimes too many chiefs and not enough Indians. Really need to communicate things better at the top.

    Pros

Starting Salary is great. Reward for good sales (not commission). Not much sales experience needed to get a job.

    Cons

Sense of community isn't the strongest (at least in my store). I worked in sunglasses, and I think my sales goals were unrealistic starting out. I didn't meet them.
