Former Employee – worked at Discover Card full-time for more than 10 years
Pros – Benefits, competitive pay, nice campus
Cons – The management at the HQ location is a very siloed structure. I was employed at this company for twenty-four years. I grew with the company, and had a great experience in the early years, however, corporate politics from upper management, specifically the Cardmember Services Management team at HQ from the top down has no concern for their people, only for the bottom line. The company was made great by maintaining an employee centric atmosphere which motivated employees to stay and remain loyal to the company and work hard to perform which garnered great bottom line results. The focus has changed, and it was a very sad thing to witness and be a part of.
Advice to Senior Management – Re-examine your approach to how you make decisions. Get rid of your HQ superiority complex and listen to the people who are doing the work before you make structural changes. Regardless of compensation, I personally would not work for the company again with the current attitude and atmosphere of the leaders in Cardmember services at HQ.

Former Employee – worked at Discover Card full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Good benefits, Pay, Career opportunity
Cons – Managers hire who they like vs. who is capable to do the job.
Managers often back stab and take part in office gossip.
Managers get away with treating employees how they want. No positive reinforcement.
Advice to Senior Management – Make sure you identify with the people that do the job most. Stop acting like you are too good to be on their level. You need them in order to succeed!
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Discover Card full-time for more than a year
Pros – Excellent benefits, lots of paid vacation, met some good people, decent job security, learned a ton about the business and customer service.
Cons – Tout high incentive plans that have their requirements changed constantly and are very difficult to hit, depending on the department you will be taking calls non-stop and be very stressed out, can't take PTO on weekends which you are always working, group call listening sessions (you get to listen to random calls with half your team present), low raises 9 cents an hour after 9 months.

Former Employee – worked at Discover Card full-time for less than a year
Pros – Laid back atmosphere, good benefits, decent pay, and a variety of colleagues.
Cons – Low entry level salary, tedious work, hard to move up, and unprofessional upper management
Advice to Senior Management – Clean house and hire some more professional people, rather than promoting within for 10+ years...

Current Employee – been working at Discover Card
Pros – Great benefits, with good PTO, management tries to support those they manage. Nice facilities with a fitness center on site.
Cons – Pay is low compared to other similar jobs, managers often do not know how to complete the job that the representatives they manage are supposed to do.

Current Employee – been working at Discover Card
Pros – It has a full service cafe and gym, plus a walking trail around the perimeter of the grounds. The security of the facility is great.
Cons – The employees are micro managed. They not treated as adults. The promotions are given to the most popular people and not the most qualified or efficient.
Advice to Senior Management – listen to the front line people...

Former Employee – worked at Discover Card
Pros – The pay and benefits are great. They have alot of contests within the customer service departments so if you are great at selling products then you will do wonderful in this position.
Cons – There was a big lack of communication between departments and that at times made helping card members much harder than it needed to be. Also managers were rarely around and I noticed that there were people I worked with who were exceptional workers and had been in the exact same positions for over a decade! The only way to move up to management is to get a bachelors degree. If you have one upon hiring in you can become a manager in a few months. I saw that first hand.
Advice to Senior Management – I would say that instead of focusing so much on hiring new recruits every other week there should be more of an effort to retain the great employees who are out on the floor doing a great job. I was a loyal employee at Discover and would have stayed if there wasn't such a "you can be replaced" attitude toward employees.

Current Employee – been working at Discover Card
Pros – Great fitness center. Building is very pretty. There are some decent people that work there. Smart and know what they are doing....unfortunately, most of those people are overlooked. It used to be a great place to work. Everyone worked for a common goal...not anymore.
Cons – The network is mismanaged, card has their act together. Repeat mistakes, and deplorable upper management.
Advice to Senior Management – Use some forethought. Cut execs salaries
