    Pros

    Trainers mostly know what they're doing. Company states great values to work by (more covered in cons.) You make good friends.

    Cons

    Can't move up in the company unless you are well liked, or you happen to just come from UCF's Hospitality Management course (even if you've never worked a day as a front line cast member.) Senior management only seems to care about what makes money, rather than the full guest experience anymore. Things have gone pretty much downhill since the Eisner era where a lot of things were added to the parks that people actually enjoy. A lot of the cast treat the job like it's High School (cliques, snitching on anything to make them look better (which hasn't actually happened to me personally but i've seen it happen plenty of times.)) Now back to the values, they go over the values they are supposed to be following, and have followed in the past. However, once you get in to a position, that all goes out the window.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Work more than your required "refresher" course each year in a front line position to see what we have to deal with each day, rather than just sitting in your offices every day not knowing what's actually going on.

    Pros

    Excellent benefits package for full-time employees including; medical, dental, Park admission for you and your family, discounts on merchandise and rooms, and work uniforms "costumes" are provided. For the most part coworkers are friendly and you can have fun at work. It's encouraged that you use your imagination, play with the guests "customers", and engage everyone you meet. It's a great place to hone your customer service skills. You will meet people from all walks of life, all ages, all countries, and temperaments between completely amazed to rude and angry. However Disney gives you all the tools you need to deal with most situations. Training courses on diversity, in-depth training in customer service techniques, access to software for learning different languages, all internal communication is in both english and spanish, and a wealth of self paced learning online. Probably one of the best jobs if you don't need to live off you own wages, just need the benefits, and/or have no interest in advancement.

    Cons

    As I just mentioned its a fun and rewarding job, just not financially. Average starting pay is barely above minimum wage and with the exception of peak times, they usually give you a minimum number of hours. Part-time has to give 4 days of availably but may only be worked 1 day a week. This and the fact that schedules are only posted a week in advance make it hard to get a second part-time job. Full-time is required to give "full availability". This means you have to be available to work any shift on any day, literally you have to be able to work 24/7 if needed. The minimum number of hours for full-time is 32 which can make budgeting tricky. Pay raises are small, between 1-5%, and in no way keeps up with inflation. It can take years to transfer from part-time to full-time not because of a lack of need but because upper management just won't make the opportunities available. Even if a full-timer leaves they don't fill the vacancy with an eligible part-timer looking to move up. They just back fill with another part-timer. However if you have a spouse who makes good money and you are working there for "fun" or to get medical benefits than non of this matters.

    The management structure is very limiting for growth. There are very few levels between front-line castmember "employee" and upper management. This means it's hard to move up and extremely difficult to get into a middle management role. There are things you can do to enhance your pay like becoming a trainer or facilitator but the boost in pay is only in effect when you are officially scheduled for that role. None of these will help your chances to advance and if you're really good, could even hurt them. Managers are salary positions and tend to work more then 40 hours per week. Consideration for new manager candidates isn't done by performance or job knowledge but by favoritism. If you're liked you move up, if not you're stuck. Your direct manager holds your fate in their hands. Any kind of advancement or transfer can be blocked by them.

    Backed by a multi-billion dollar company that is known for its world class customer service and family friendly values it really help the reputation and bottom line if they would to pay those who are on the front lines a real living wage. With Disney being the only real choice for families why not help the lives of those families who work for you? It wouldn't hurt the bottom line and the improvement in employee satisfaction would actually improve it.

    Pros

    Free park admission / parking for yourself and limited admission for friends and family. Food and merchandise discounts in the park. You will me some amazing people working here that will remain friends for a lifetime.

    Cons

    Low pay for demanding first rate guest service. You must arrive 45+ minutes prior to a shift accommodate parking in an overcrowded offsite parking lot, taking a slow shuttle to the cast entry point, and walking through a crowded theme park to your specific location to clock in. (Often delayed by guests questions, parades, or other entertainment that can make you late to work.) Scheduled hours are all over the place. You're expected to work very early mornings (6 am and earlier) and very late nights (1:30am and later). Sometimes only 9 hours are in-between shifts, not allowing for rest and personal needs/errands. Chances of spending a holiday with your family are slim. I've been promoted or offered more responsibility 5 times, however, received one pay raise of $1.50 per hour over other cast members with far less responsibilities. (It's something, but not much.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I feel the talent Disney used to hire is now not interested in working here due to low pay/benefits and are seeking their jobs elsewhere. This is causing the company to slip in its standards of who they hire and their competency for the roles in which they are placed.

    Pros

    Great benefits including park admission.

    Cons

    No time to visit parks with demanding schedule. Cult like atmosphere, even have to follow the "look" in non guest facing roles. Reservation center requires way too much required overtime without adding extra time allowed off during non peak. Very easy to be walked out the door if you don't meet metrics or have had to take more than 6 days of work in an entire year unless you take a sick leave. If you opt for a leave they require that one of their physicians clear you to return to work. For a company that strives to entertain families they do not let their employees have the time to enjoy their own families.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to what would make your cast members be more productive in the reservation center. Don't micromanage. Work harder to retain cast members that have been trained and are good at what they do. Leadership should stop playing favorites, it is so obvious and it leaves the mentality of the rest that it doesn't matter how hard they work, if they are not one of the chosen they will never move ahead.

    Pros

    This is a review for WDPRO. Nicely decorated offices. Casual dress code compared to Disney's standard dress code.

    Cons

    Work is all about maintenance of old systems and digital properties. The company has been making bad decisions for years, and you have to take care of half broken "left by cheap outside vendors" websites and systems. Very cheap political Sr managers who don't care the quality of digital properties. Many contractor consultants are actually saving their business and public reputation. Full-time employees look down contractors and treat them with no respect at work space. Some of them seriously say things like "you are a contractor and cannot tell xxx what needs to be done". Why they hire contract Project Managers then?

    Business folks overturn tech recommendations and make bad tech decisions as a company. Tech managers are sick of this and very high turnover rate among VP's (some even left within a year. Average is about 18 months) and also every department under tech. Some senior managers are clingy and fired ones that aren't in their circle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire talented people as full time. Fire these intra office job hoppers who came from other Disney subsidiary companies. They don't deserve their jobs. Hire people who studied technology in college.

    Pros

    Making both kids and adults happy. I truly love Disney with all my heart, but working for the company as an employee is a whole 'nother thing. It changes your perspective.

    Cons

    Most workers were paid only a few cents above minimum wage and the company took pride in the fact that they paid no one "minimum wage." Disgruntled workers behind the scene. Everyone talked bad about the company but no one wanted/could afford to leave due to low level of education and tough economic times. I worked there because I truly loved Disney as a kid and it was a fun gig for a few months in college. Also hard to climb the ladder with thousands of employees waiting for an opportunity to do so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    PAY YOUR EMPLOYEES MORE! They work very hard to make everyone happy and some stand out in the sun for extended period of times and work till 3-4am. They deserve to be paid more. And stop being stingy about overtime!

    Pros

    Like many others have stated, it is cool to be around so many other college students in such a unique setting. However, the free park passes only go so far, and depending on your work schedule it is difficult to really maximize that. That being said, free entry to any park, is obviously a huge perk.

    Cons

    If you don't have a car, things could be very difficult for you. Not having a car made the commute to and from work really difficult. You have to take a bus, and in a lot of cases have to transfer to another one or two to get to your shift. I worked 3-11 and it just felt like every day was consumed with commuting, almost always took an hour plus to get to or from. Got home at 12 or 1 am even, woke up maybe at 9-10 am, and then in a couple hours you have to go do it all over again.

    Also, you really get exposed to the older people that work there and it is honestly pretty depressing sometimes. Disney does not take great care of those that have been in the union for a ton of years. Maybe it is because I was in a resort but this was really magnified to me.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I am sure my review won't get read, but if it does, and somehow it could make a difference, you should really be looking out for the employees that have been there for so long. Compensation should be higher, and there is no way upper management doesn't already know this. A little goes a long way for overall attitude in a work place.
