I have been working at Dole Food full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company is all about great quality food and sustainability. The people I worked with were great.

    Cons

The owner, David Murdock is well past his prime, yet he doesn't seem to know it or what to believe it. He's sends the management team and ultimately the staff on one chase after another instead of allow the company to do what it does best and that is to focus on great products and improving efficiency of all related processes.

    Advice to Management

Encourage Murdock to retire. Get DeLorenzo back!

I have been working at Dole Food full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very organized, pretty understanding about requesting time off, all management staff are nice. No mean people. You have a set schedule and never work more than a half hour past closing. I enjoyed the customer interaction too.

    Cons

Very physical work, constantly lifting boxes, restocking the retail store, serving long lines of food and beverage customers. Very little room for promotion. From the position of summer associate you basically have the option of becoming full time in the same position or moving to cashier, which pays the same but less physical work. The only upward promotion I saw when working there was moving up to being a cook.

I worked at Dole Food full-time

    Pros

International business exposure; good career opportunites; generally excellent professional staff; strong teamwork ethic.

    Cons

Medium term strategy is unclear after company went private in 2013 for second time. Sense of uncertainty increased after significant restructuring. Few in corporate staff seem to fully understand the global business.

    Advice to Management

Strengthen the succession plan. Restore employee motivation.

I worked at Dole Food full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy jobs, CSR programs and employees' benefits... There were lots of programs for the employees to enjoy like family day and foundation day. The company will issue free transportation from your home to the work place, and vice versa. They provide lots of training for the employees and opportunity to travel as well to those who belong in the upper management.

    Cons

Most managers (technical ones) in this company are not qualified for a position. They get hired because the HR division has poor recruitment skills. They tend to show-off their good organizational development skills, but taking for granted their recruitment processes. People working in this company are already very old. Consequence is that they tend to work not in their best because of repetition of procedures, and resistance to developmental changes.

    Advice to Management

Replace the old employees (particularly the managers) with fresh and enthusiastic people.
