I worked at Dollar General part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

If you don't have any experience, it's a decent place to start out, and it's pretty easy to get hired there.

    Cons

The turnover rate is high, which speaks volumes about employee satisfaction, so you're likely to be working with new people and being asked to cover missed shifts often. Pay was minimum wage as a sales associate, and I wouldn't say it was good pay at salaried positions either because managers have to work far too many hours to make the hourly rate worthwhile.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees! Treat them like people, rather than as warm bodies, and prioritize training adequately and paying reasonably to keep them around. One good employee is worth a dozen that quit within the first few weeks. Stop cutting hours and expecting more to get done than is possible, because it keeps your managers at the store longer than they ought to be and you'll ultimately lose them, too.

I worked at Dollar General full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good pay and hours if you work as a 3rd key or higher. Very simple job and very redundant so it's a great place if you like a routine job. Upper management can be unrealistic with goals at times, but I think that goes for everywhere.

    Cons

May have to work overtime without a choice. The routine work becomes redundant. I didn't feel appreciated by the company. It wasn't a company I wanted a career at.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    More employee satisfaction.

I have been working at Dollar General full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Lots of valuable training, great employees, hard workers, fast paced , most employees are dedicated, able to. Tweak things in your store to your liking

    Cons

Home/ work balance. Expects you to work 80 to 100 hours . when nneeded.Doubles high turnover corp out of touch, UN rrealistic expectations, use to be able to transfer in 6 months now must wait 18 life happens

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some of that profit, most districts are short staffed, add more employees to store i promise a better bottom line, maintain good help by paying them and giving them better home life

I have been working at Dollar General

    Pros

It is ok working there but you will face a lot of problems. One, when you are working there, you are being watch all the time and you have to watch for yourself, customers, and the employees because they count your cash when you clock out. Second, you will always have a problem with the customers over something and some are crazy. Trust no one at work. But other than that you do projects, stocking, and cashing people out. You get a lot of hours too if you talk to your hiring manager.

    Cons

Be watch and dealing with people.
