I worked at Domtar full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Had flexible schedule, could order discounted diapers, facility was clean

    Cons

Too many meetings, misinformation from management, poor management in place, once the personal care division was acquired , not much was done to make it feel part of the company, very progressive minded company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop focusing on progressive issues and actually take care of your employees. It is better to say nothing at rather than make false claims to employees.

I have been working at Domtar full-time

    Pros

The work is easy and the pay is good for the work. Benefits are reasonably good, but getting worse. Most people work less than 9-5 and even month end is not too busy for most people.

    Cons

The pay is bad for an accountant and two weeks starting vacation is tough. There is little room for growth and the office is not much fun. Managers don't even bother to say hi to you in the halls, much less take time to manage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to the staff and stop empire-building. Delegate some work - everyone is bored and there are good reasons you can't keep people here - pay more and give the accountants actual accounting work to do. People skills are important.

I have been working at Domtar full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good work benefits, and a real care for environmental concerns.

    Cons

Half of the upper management is in the US, the other is in Canada; lack of communication and each headquarter looking out for its own well-doing creates a considerable deal of conflicts of direction and focus, and tension in the work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More integration between the two headquarters to be worked on.

I have been working at Domtar

    Pros

Domtar is still the best among the competitors in the present down paper market. The industry is not at its best time, for sure.

    Cons

Projects to harmonize multiple IT systems are on hold for undetermined period of time. HR policy in terms of vacation time is very inflexible.
Management doesn't encourage feedback if it's not in line with what they expect. They are trying too hard to please the upper level and not takingenough care of their subordinates. But shouldn't it be vise versa, since it's your employees that make you a stronger leader?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give a chance to your employees, don't justsay " I don't think you are ready". Try them in action, especially if they are so willing to demonstrate their abilities.

I have been working at Domtar

    Pros

Challenge of doing something with nothing. The company gives you lots of rope but you can quickly hang yourself with that samer rope.

    Cons

Long, long hours of work expected due to vacancies in organization. Remaining few are expected to pick up the slack. Slow to respond to Job vacancies. General state of the forest industry is partially to blame for situation here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quick fix to root problems stated by staff to management. Listen and don't give lip service.
