Not as professional as it seems at first

Accountant (Current Employee) Fort Mill, SC

ProsThe work is easy and the pay is good for the work. Benefits are reasonably good, but getting worse. Most people work less than 9-5 and even month end is not too busy for most people.

ConsThe pay is bad for an accountant and two weeks starting vacation is tough. There is little room for growth and the office is not much fun. Managers don't even bother to say hi to you in the halls, much less take time to manage.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay more attention to the staff and stop empire-building. Delegate some work - everyone is bored and there are good reasons you can't keep people here - pay more and give the accountants actual accounting work to do. People skills are important.

No respect for senior employees at the Espanola Mill

Engineering Tech (Current Employee) Espanola, ON (Canada)

ProsSafety Policy seems good. Safety awards are OK too- but only if you like hats and coats time and time again, Tim's and Subway $15 gift card, and the occasional burger/sausage barbacue put on by management.

ConsDon't ever consider working for this company if you think you're going to make a difference or think that you're actually valued as an employee. I worked hard and was dedicated to this mill for over 30 years and they bring in a recent college grad and pay him the same as me! - and company wants me to train him!!! Sounds fair to me - not!!

Advice to Senior ManagementEspanola mill MUST seriously reconsider their hiring practice as is. No respect for senior employees. CORPORATE Human Resources office needs to be more involved, needs to be better informed and care more about hiring pratices and respect of senior employees at this mill. Human Resources department hiring practices at this mill are a joke!

Conflict of interest between the two headquarters

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Montreal, QC (Canada)

ProsGood work benefits, and a real care for environmental concerns.

ConsHalf of the upper management is in the US, the other is in Canada; lack of communication and each headquarter looking out for its own well-doing creates a considerable deal of conflicts of direction and focus, and tension in the work environment.

Advice to Senior ManagementMore integration between the two headquarters to be worked on.

Not enough chances for career advancement.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Montreal, QC (Canada)

ProsDomtar is still the best among the competitors in the present down paper market. The industry is not at its best time, for sure.

ConsProjects to harmonize multiple IT systems are on hold for undetermined period of time. HR policy in terms of vacation time is very inflexible.
Management doesn't encourage feedback if it's not in line with what they expect. They are trying too hard to please the upper level and not takingenough care of their subordinates. But shouldn't it be vise versa, since it's your employees that make you a stronger leader?

Advice to Senior ManagementGive a chance to your employees, don't justsay " I don't think you are ready". Try them in action, especially if they are so willing to demonstrate their abilities.

No help on the horizon. We're sinking fast!

Safety & Environmental Manager (Current Employee) Dryden, ON (Canada)

ProsChallenge of doing something with nothing. The company gives you lots of rope but you can quickly hang yourself with that samer rope.

ConsLong, long hours of work expected due to vacancies in organization. Remaining few are expected to pick up the slack. Slow to respond to Job vacancies. General state of the forest industry is partially to blame for situation here.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuick fix to root problems stated by staff to management. Listen and don't give lip service.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
