    Pros

Continued training, lasting friendships, safe working environment

    Cons

No room for advancing, constantly transferred to other jobs, lack of adequate training for job, not valued by supervision, treated like cattle & replaceable

    Advice to Management

The only opportunity or value is placed on white collar workers. Laborers should be appreciated & not continually worried about keeping their job due to being hurt & threatened to keep quiet. Lost a lot of friends & good workers due to made up reasons. I would suggest keep your workers instead of paying wrongful termination payoffs.

    Pros

Pay is competitive, but being a contractor is not - no benefits, bonuses, etc. Although Kelly rep will lie to you...

    Cons

Potential dangers working in plant. Too much idle time - leaves too much room for non-work activities: surfing the Internet, facebook, and gossiping. Employees are SAP illiterate!!

    Advice to Management

Have a training plan rather than letting new employee suffer through watching someone else while they go through their day. Kelly Services is a nightmare to work with - Dow really should take a priority in knowing what Kelly Services is really doing...

  3. A great company to work for once you get hired on permanently.

    Pros

A great exposure to learning about chemicals and what they are used for. It was very insightful and educational as well and had a great time working for them. I like the different options on what shift you wanted to work. The opportunities are endless once you are brought on permanently.

    Cons

Communication is not the greatest and this is a problem that if not corrected will cause bigger problems in the future. Sometimes they find stupid excuses for getting rid of people and that's not right. Another problem is that the LT's and trainers don't communicate well with the contract workers, they go straight to the Kelly on site manager and that's not professional at all. If you are not gonna hire people on permanent or that it's not a temp to hire, please make that clear in the beginning so people don't get their hopes up thinking they will be hired on permanently. Some two faced people there that will snitch just to make themselves feel good so that they can be on the good side of LT and management, even if it is not the truth.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with the contract workers and let them know that they will not be hired on permanently no matter how long they stay on. Don't blame the contract workers if they leave the assignment when something better comes along as thy want something permanent and reliable. Don't have such high expectations on the contract workers, tends to scare people away.

Great if you have a Ph.D., but if you don't have the letters after your name, you are treated as sub-human trash.

    Pros

If you have a Ph.D., you will make a lot of money. If you have a Ph.D and sell your soul to be a "People Leader", you will make sickening amounts of money.

    Cons

If you don't have a Ph.D or aren't willing to kiss butt, you will top out and be miserable.

    Pros

This review only applies to the Edina factory located in MN and does not reflect the rest of Dow.

Lots of exposure to automation engineering and technology. Definitely going to be able to leverage the technical knowledge to the next job.

    Cons

If you want zero work life balance, unreal amount of work, and just overall back stabbing people, then this is the place for you. They place no value on their employee development, you are just going to be another cog in the machine. They tout around the perk of "flexibility" like a value they offer, in reality upper management expects you to bend over backwards for them while they do nothing for you. This place is not professional and do not hold themselves accountable when it comes to caring about employees. This place runs 24x7, people are expected to work on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years...they care about the $, and nothing else.

    Advice to Management

Actually care about your employees. Talk the talk, then please walk the walk. Work on improving your culture to retain talent, not forcibly keep employees here by denying an already approved transfer.

    Pros

Big company, gets away with a lot. Good people at the mid to lower levels. On commercial side you get to go to big events on the corporate card.

    Cons

CEO is a bozo. No credibility. Strategy is incoherent. Shuffles leaders, managers, and presidents every 6-12 months. Nobody ever challenges him or they are gone. Sponsor the olympics for 10 years??? YOU ARE A CHEMICAL COMPANY NOT A CONSUMER FOCUSED COMPANY. What a waste of time and $$$ Again shareholder devalue. His #2 sitting in Europe is a waste of $$ to shareholders and has never done anything to create value. No respect for women in the executive wing. Awesome women who challenged Euro weenie were shown the door. The CEO was called the worst CEO ever by Mad Money and put on the wall of shame. CEOs went nuts and put a big $ push to all his CEO cronies to get that taken down. AND THYE DID! That should say it all. Also, look at the lawsuit by the female compliance officer First, decried here. and now, try to settle. Another waste of shareholder $$.

    Advice to Management

Fire Sir Evil. Replace the entire Board of Directors (totally stuffed with cronies and people who clearly don't care about the company (they care about their $$$ and their use of the corporate jets). Develop a real strategy. Then get rid of the clueless "leaders" who have done nothing but drink the cool aid and bob their heads.'

    Pros

Great potential to learn and grow, if management was on your side This review is strictly for the Philadelphia office as I am aware that all of Dow Chemical does not operate the same way.

    Cons

I've heard very good things about management in Midland, MI. How they mentor you and train and help you succeed and I've seen it happen. The Philly office is quite the contrary. I was interviewed and brought in for a specific role, once I got on board, I was put into a totally different role in which I did not have enough experience. As I was willing to work with them, requests to management for training always ended with me contacting other colleagues who were overworked themselves and did not have time. Needless to say I was put in a position to fail and fail I did. The Philadelphia office is filled with ex Rhom & Haas employees who are very snobby, think they know it all and very unwilling to help a colleague.

    Advice to Management

I would advise upper management to give managers a minimum requirement to attend some sort of basic skills training. The Philadelphia office is filled with residuals employees who may have functional knowledge but no management or leadership skills.

    Pros

Salary was decent; there is a lot of training provided, but it is tedious and time consuming; that is all I can say that is positive

    Cons

Poor management; no guidance; no work/family balance as they claim; extensive time focused on work processes no one follows; unrealistic expectations

    Advice to Management

Don't be fake - take time to guide, lead and be a mentor.

    Cons

Think about what you are doing to people, we can't work to death with less people. NEA is making it worse and so inefficient.
