    Dow's Ringwood, Illinois Facility

    Contractor (Current Employee) Ringwood, IL

ProsSome friendly people, other than that not much.

ConsJust go there, it will make you puke. Worst place I have ever been. I did some contractors work there and it is a complete circus. No one knows who is in control. No one knows what the chain of command is including the site leader. The operators seem willing to help out, but they are afraid of their own shadow and they act as if they are about to commit suicide. I am just glad I don't work there all of the time.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would tell management to be more human and not so "by the books." Meaning there is no laughter at this plant if I see an operator make a small mistake on a safe work permit it is possible they will be fired. I have seen many of them go and this makes me never want to work in a place where people are willing to rat you out for nonsense. I have asked management about why they fire people for stupid reasons and they always say "We are Dow, it is about safety." That is the typical giant corporate answer of people terrified of losing their jobs.

Highly insular, self promoting incompetent management

    Delivery (Former Employee) Philadelphia, PA

ProsNot one pro can I put forth, management is horrid, very out of touch with reality. Many many layers of bs & operating disciplines which are meaningless

ConsThe worst behemoth I've encountered in my 28 years of working in the chemical sector. This company is a process safety catastrophe waiting to happen.

Worst job I have had in my entire lifetime.

    EH&S (Former Employee) Hahnville, LA

ProsThe only pros are a decent rate of pay and decent benefits and a somewhat flexible schedule.

ConsVery bureaucratic and political, the St. Charles site is rife with nepotism at all levels, promotions are based solely on your ability to pucker. Most areas are very clique based and cause high stress and tension. Management lacks the proper training and are biased on personal opinion and not merit. Not a pure performance driven culture; rather, results are driven by tenure and personal network. Employee attitudes- many employees wouldn't give you the time of day or take you seriously. Employees are very quick to judge before getting to know others.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of the bureaucracy and stop expecting to be worshiped as gods. Recognize the value in those who have a life outside work.

Definitely not a good company to work for

    Engineering (Current Employee) Houston, TX

ProsThere are some great people working there, but a lot of talented and skillful people have recently left the company or are thinking about leaving as well

ConsVery short term mindset of senior management; Company is on the wrong track; Lower pay and secondary benefits than comparable companies in the area; Distrustful

Advice to Senior ManagementTry to have some genuine interest in people, not only to advance your career or fill your own pockets

    Company treats contract workers poorly

Material Handler (Former Employee) Edina, MN

ProsSlightly better pay than some comparable jobs. Multiple shift options.

ConsFilmTec tends to string along contract employees for years in some cases. They use Kelly Services to aquire contract workers. These workers think there are temp to hire opportunities at FilmTec but that has not happened in over 2 years. This is NOT a temp to hire opportunity. Also you may be laid off 5 weeks before Christmas insread of 3 weeks like you are told.

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you expect to get good contract help quit lying to contract employees. Quit setting up false expectations and let contract employees know you are not going to be hiring them no matter how long they wait around. Increase the pay and maybe you will get better quality contract workers.

    Supply Chain

Production Planner (Current Employee) Midland, MI

ProsDecent pay, hard working team members on the professional level

ConsA lot of politics. Senior Management reinvents itself every year. No long term goals or plans. Employee development non existent. Destructive evaluation system that destroys team work and makes everyone suspicious of each other. No personal time as it is the Dow policy to do more with less.

Advice to Senior ManagementThat don't listen so it is pointless. CEO has got to go.

    Very little appreciation for interns

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThey pay their interns $25/hr (engineering interns only, I believe)
    -Very easy work
    -No other really pros

ConsIf you have the least amount of intelligence and hope for intellectually stimulating work as an intern, this is not the place
