Former Employee – worked at Dress Barn as an intern for less than a year
Pros – The people were generally very nice. They were very accommodating at first, and provided good support on complicated projects.
Cons – Location is not great. Executives tend to be too far removed from the actual circumstances, and interdepartmental cooperation was at a low during my tenure.
Advice to Senior Management – I understand that DB is now Ascena Retail, and if that is making you more aloof to the needs of individual brands and employees, you should be making significant efforts to improve company culture. You need youth and creativity.

Former Employee – worked at Dress Barn part-time for less than a year
Pros – Great people to work with!! Focus on customer service and satisfaction is nice and we got really nice people that came in. Fun place to work. Pay was good for part time retail. Great work/life balance, management very understanding about family emergencies, and events to give me time off.
Cons – Sometimes it felt like we were understaffed especially when trying to keep up with the constant floor changes. Got trained in the first couple months I was there, didn't get a lot of training up front.
Advice to Senior Management – Focus on solid training at the beginning.

Former Employee – worked at Dress Barn part-time for more than a year
Pros – Your co-workers are friendly. Corporate sends down goals that can be easily attained. Encouragement is everywhere. There are many perks to working with this company.
Cons – A community event is usually expected once a month and sometimes making goals or even being able to put together an event can be difficult depending on location. The VIP parties are difficult to sell at times.
Advice to Senior Management – There seems to be a trickle down effect of stress and emphasis that reaches those in management until it reaches the store and assistant managers that causes them to leave and settle for varying other types employment.

Current Employee – been working at Dress Barn part-time for less than a year
Pros – They have a great mission.
Cons – The training process sucks. It is way to long and pointless. You do a lot of reading, writing, and watching videos. I am a hands on kind of person and I learn by doing not by watching videos, reading, and writing.

Current Employee – been working at Dress Barn
Pros – B.E.L.I.E.V.E. philosophy (Building relationships, Earning trust, Leading by example, Igniting our Business, Elevating standards, Excelling in service)
Cons – DSM is not supporting the Dressbarn ideals.
Advice to Senior Management – Get rid of the employees that do not live and breathe the B.E.L.I.E.V.E. statement. It is TRULY the key to our success.

Current Employee – been working at Dress Barn
Pros – 40 % discount on great clothes
Cons – low pay impossible to get a raise. too many hoops to jump through with no reward other than silly grade school stuff.
Advice to Senior Management – Concentrate a little more on your employees and a little less on contests and goals. People will work hard when paid well. That is the reason we work.

Former Employee – worked at Dress Barn
Pros – Worked over the summer as an intern. Treated very fairly and was paid well compared to other options. Provided good experience.
Cons – Some of the work was menial, but once I demonstrated my competency I was allowed to take on more interesting tasks.
Advice to Senior Management – Department managers seemed busy with meeting with other departments and was often not available. Could provide more secondary level authority within departments.
