    I worked at Dresser-Rand full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Programs for personal development are often reimbursed
Compensation seems fair for the location of the factories (Mostly Western NY)

    Cons

    Slow to innovate
    Pushy management
Production is rushed to meet invoice goals, but quality suffers and warranty costs can be massive as a result

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Transparency in goals and defining the path forward is vital to employee engagement. I never felt as if I was working to accomplish anything exceptional; it was simply "growth" and "profits".

Former Employee - Team Leader in Painted Post, NY

    I worked at Dresser-Rand full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Interesting equipment business serving the attractive oil and gas industry

    Cons

If you are good and competent at what you do, you will be viewed as a threat by leadership which will result in lowering your self esteem and personal self worth. Working for this company could negatively impact your goals unless you just want a paycheck and punch the clock. Flavor the moment approach to problem solving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come to terms with your personal limitations and support and grow the good employees. There are a lot of good people at this company that need nurturing to make it more successful. It is time for Dresser-Rand to modernize its management style and culture. If it acted like major multi-national corporation, it could grow up to be as large as Dollar General.

I have been working at Dresser-Rand full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Middle management really tries to get everything accomplished. Lots of young guns getting the job done as well as old timers willing to help the next generation.

    Cons

Compensation is pretty bad with 3% raises. Anyone below a directors level is expected to work long hours while working below industry average. People get promoted to jobs they are not capable of doing but because of the "good ole boy network" or "buddy system" HR is a joke, they play the political game instead of being impartial. If you do your job but they don't like you, you are gone. Company wide poor communication between: new equipment, factories & services

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of Volpe & Luciano!!! Time for a new regime!!!

    Pros

Smart and wonderful people in engineering and on the shop floor

    Cons

Culture of blame. Managers set people up to fail. Personnel turnover is so high in the management ranks that there is constant chaos.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in your employees. Focus on developing the leadership. Develop a positive culture by focusing on integrity in your processes and people. Recognized the accomplishments of your employees.

    I worked at Dresser-Rand full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent pay & a great manager. Pension and benefits were pretty good.

    Cons

Terrible VP that has lead to extreme turn over. Both resignations and lots of terminations. Company was ruled by HR in Canada and I think they treaded employees unfairly in many cases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let managers run there departments and stop firing first and asking later mentality. Employees take notice of the empty desks and numerous firings and notice how quick the company turns it's back on a employees. To avoid becoming next most people just start looking for a stable work environment and move on as fast as they can.
