    Pros

Technology driven company with substantial R&D investments in many products. Also forward thinking in some of their acquisitions and also in attracting outside talent.

    Cons

Some of their acquisitions are not integrated into the organization well resulting in existing talent running for the door to go to competitors, In some cases those same people actually start competing firms.

    Advice to Management

With Siemens now approved as the new parent organization, don't lose site of the customer focused culture, or what remains of it at the present time.

    Pros

Opportunity for advancement. Coworkers are willing to help.

    Cons

Poor management. Lots of favoritism. You have to be a pro at CYA. Lack of communication.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to consider ALL employees opinions instead of their favorites.

    I have been working at Dresser-Rand full-time

    Pros

Great people to work with. Good pay if negotiated during hiring process and the benefits are average. Challenging work and you will never be bored. Many challenges but overall a good place to work.

    Cons

Very much a tribal culture. Very top heavy with allot of politics. Upper Management disconnected with lower management. Upper management will preach lean and six sigma but will not thoroughly practice it. More about charts and graphs than actual results. Company has no problem hiring directors and managers (even one with little or no direct reports) but will not provide resources at the lower level to get process and product improved. Just enough lower management to fight fires and get product moving though all the inefficiencies. Culture is more about blaming than about fixing problems. Management will not invest money and resources in fixing issues even though it is proven the investment will provide excellent return in both cost and cycle time reduction. People following procedure is a rarity. Many challenges but also opportunities. This scenario is typical the oil and gas engineer to order industry.

    Advice to Management

Invest in lower management you do not need all those directors and corporate managers. Invest in the resources and equipment that can provide more client satisfaction and full profitability. Practice what you preach. Along with engineering for design try engineering for manufacturability. The engineering departments are disconnected with manufacturing.

    Pros

Get coworkers, but the experience depends on your department and plant. I enjoy going to work but the long term direction and goals are unclear.

    Cons

Compartmentalize management philosophy. Company functions more reactively than proactively. Continual battling from behind. Companies annual evaluation system does not accurately reward according to merit.
