    Pros

D-R has operations and/or client-facing offices located in every major Oil & Gas center worldwide. New employees are challenged immediately, and increasing levels of responsibilities are put upon the most capable performers. You will not find a more geographically and ethnically workforce. It is not uncommon to be working on virtual teams spanning 3+ continents in pursuit of global projects. In my several years, I came to appreciate the value of the Dresser-Rand name brand, in terms of its recognition by clients, for offering world class machinery technology and premier services.

    Cons

Pay scales are competitive with other OEM's, but employees are regularly and easily poached by higher-paying International and National Oil Companies, desiring OEM-experienced engineers and technicians. While the global element is exciting, it can take a toll on employees during project pursuit, with very late nights or early mornings required to support cross-continent teleconferences and the like.

    Advice to Management

Increased focus on hands-on (machinery-based) training programs, and encouraging work-life balance.

    Pros

Solid company that's known to provide stability to its employees and treat them well. Top quality technology recognized by the vast majority of O&G Clients. Active in developing promising new products. Good career opportunities as-is, with the acquisition by Siemens probably bringing additional ones.

    Cons

The different locations are not in the most sought after US cities. The quality of employees can be disparate. The high achievers will be recognized but may not find the support and tools needed to be higher productive.

    Advice to Management

Training can be improve greatly. Not very strong culture.

    Pros

Great people, great managers and the high level of empowerment. You can make the difference!

    Cons

Nothing too detrimental! Every company has its cons but I found the cons in Dresser-Rand acceptable and not a big issue.

    Advice to Management

    Continue with the great job!

    Pros

Ability to move about the company across different locations worldwide

    Cons

To many middle managers. Before I left the company was more focused on quarterly numbers than a long term plan.

    Advice to Management

Clean house with middle management and good luck with the Siemens transition

    Pros

Dresser-Rand is a $5+ billion, heavy hitter in the petroleum production market. The company, through acquisitions and mergers, has existed for some 150 years. They offer a competitive salary, with quality benefits. There is room for growth, for those willing to put in the work.

    Cons

Dresser-Rand is expanding rapidly, and such leads to common growing pains for any company. The raises do leave much to be desired. This is a unique service industry, so working late nights and weekends are a way of life

    Pros

Since they are so lean you have opportunity to learn and be proactive

    Cons

Very often over worked and overwhelmed

    Advice to Management

Employees have to work with an entrepreneurial attitude since there is not much guidance or motivation. Would be nice if management walked their talk.
