Very poor management and poor atmosphere to work in Barley Mill Plaza.

    Accountant (Former Employee)
    Wilmington, DE

ProsDupont offers good compensation package compared to other companies in wilmington, de.

ConsYou can the best hardest working employee but you will still stay at the same level you were when you were hired. Unless of course you are very good at kissing some major butt with your managers. I say Managers because every year you work you will wind up with a different manager who has absolutely know idea what you do but yet when it comes to your review will give you a negative one. Also, if you enjoy switching jobs every 2 years for the next 30 years then this is the place for you.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey need to focus on more of what their employees do rather than just trying to get promoted to their next job assignment.

You can be happy at DuPont (if you don't mind backstabbing your coworkers)

    Area Engineer (Former Employee)
    Orange, TX

ProsThere is a strong mechanical engineering group, with some on ASME code committees. Some are willing to teach younger engineers.

ConsThe location was not very good. The plant is in the middle of a small town (Ornage, TX) with no night life. Shops close early on the week days, and you're lucky to find one open on the the weekends. East Texas is not a friendly area for minorities. Employees tend to be very clicky, so if you're not part of the group, it's tough to succeed. There's a lot of GOB networking. Employees are very cut throat, and I witnessed this behavior encouraged by management. Needless to say, it's a highly stressful work environment. Beware of who you trust. Management does not support outside training.

Advice to Senior Managementdo not reward employees who sabotage other employees

    Bureaucracy rules

    Engineer (Current Employee)
    Wilmington, DE

ProsGood technical expertise especially in engineering and science. Big company with many businesses and products offers diverse opportunities for career development national and international. Good benefits.

ConsVery bureaucratic. Diverse thought not encouraged. Hierarchy and "who you know" dictate job advancement. Too slow to respond timely to market opportunities and customer needs. No consistent development programs for professionals. Basically non-existent program for early career professionals and very weak for more experienced ones. Salaries do not commensurate with responsibilities especially with increased workload as aging workforce retires. Chemical handling and chemical plants might not offer attractive job settings for new professionals especially women.

Advice to Senior ManagementEncourage creative thinking, become more transparent and accessible in regards to job performance feedback, career development opportunities, company performance. Create for all employees fair career advancement opportunities. Allow career advancement to be based on merit as perceived not only by management but also by peers.

    Not what you would expect...

    Customer Service (Current Employee)
    Wilmington, DE

ProsStability and work environment. There is opportunity to grow if you network with the correct people.

Constoo much bureaucracy, incompetent people in high levels, lack of performance

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease listen to lower levels in your organization. Demand performance and hold people accountable

A slowly dying company with serious issues at all levels and a suffocating work environment

    Regional Accounts Manager (Current Employee)
    Wilmington, DE

ProsIt carries a name that is recognized as a superior company. Flex hours are great. You can get away with doing nothing if that is what you want. Bright people. Can try multiple career paths just don't expect to get far unless you know someone and kiss up.

ConsInternal systems are a chore to work through and internal technology is outdated by decades. They claim superior safety and ethics, they are just really good at hiding things, especially safety issues. Management comp is tied to safety performance and creates a conflict of interest. Poor management running things due to lack of qualifications and promotion of friends rather than those deserving. Management is more interested in what you do to make them look good regardless of what you deliver. Leadership manages their careers rather than the business and leave the mess for others to clean up. Benefits are shrinking, pay is marginal, internal pressures are high towards meaningless work and the company simply can't do things fast. I have experience significant ethical issues and people treatment at management levels that go unaddressed. Reporting problems reflects negatively on the person. Middle and upper management buffer leadership from what is actually going on at the street level. No accountability of management. Low morale, high turnover. Bonuses are not tied sufficiently to individual performance.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart paying attention to what is going on at the street level rather than the relationships you maintain. Don't believe everything your managers tell you and don't cherry pick friends for positions they are not qualified for. Spend time with the people that get things done at the level where the rubber hits the road. Get connected with your customers needs and listen to who they say are delivering for the company. Show some candor with your people, reward them adequately and make time for fun. Retention of qualified and young personnel is poor.

Good pay but poor career growth

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsGenerous pay for easy tasks.
    Work life balance

ConsLack of understanding for what our competitors and the outside world is doing. Management are waiting for years to come with their generous pension so they are relutant to move. All changes come with same people, similar idea, just change the name and titles. All wastes of time. Also, people worked too long here so they cannot accept what the outside world knowledge, even from their rivals.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview what the individual are doing, especially middle management. Often they pass the tasks to the lower levels while always engaging in audios or meetings with no solid or concrete results. If really redudant resources, either help them to grow by allocating different tasks to them or simply chop them by compensation.

Definitely loads of corporate politics, chaotic decissions, no personal responsibility.

    Sales and Marketing (Former Employee)
    Brussels (Belgium)

ProsSalaries are somewhat higher than market average. Plenty international travel opportunities, many internal training. In smaller regions more autonomy and degree of freedom to make decissions without involving too many people.

ConsTop down management style, very politically driven organization. Chaotic decissions. In larger regions too many people involved to make a simple decission yet no personal accountability amongst the mid management. Definitely not a place for initiative and entrepreneural individuals. It often felt as if DuPont employees in France, Belgium, Germany, The Netherlands and many developing regions had lost their motivation and direction. Very dependent on the manager's personality. More pragmatic - lucky you are to work with; more corporate politics - a guaranteed deterioration.

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop a better sense of humor, appreciate andnrecognize the people that work with you. Be proactive, encourage, lead, show personal examples, unite the team....

    Not for initiative and energetic

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Moscow (Russia)

    ProsGood social package, good salary

ConsExtremely poor middle managment perfomance, no structural approach, no strategy and no priorities, bad attitude toward customers, extremely bad business processes, too much red tape, slow promotion based on relative-friend ties rather than actual performance of employees

Advice to Senior Management1. Start with people, bring talents to middle managment positions
    2. Force these people to clarify long term strategy and put clear priorities
    3. Optimize business processes
