I worked at DuPont Pioneer as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Leadership, growth within company, training set up well. Intern orientation was great. Networking with many upper level people was very easy.

    Cons

At times it seemed the safety policies could be looked at again for times sake. Watching of employees and trust within

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A little more interest in the lowly intern.

    Pros

Nice people with great work ethics. Also a very good vacation plan. Culture is one of the best in Des Moines.

    Cons

Too many contractors. Sometimes it felt like DuPont was trying to control everything Pioneer was trying to do. Not necessarily for the better.

I have been working at DuPont Pioneer full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

It's an established company with top quality biotech equipment and facilities. They are very safety oriented and are mindful of their core values.

    Cons

Work hours during peak times can cut into work-life balance, but there is plenty of down time during other times of the year.

I have been working at DuPont Pioneer full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great company to work for with talented and friendly coworkers. Lots of opportunity within the company and flexibility. In my experience, micro-management is minimal and there is significant freedom in how you accomplish your work.

    Cons

As with any employer, there are some less than desirable people in the mix, but especially with a large company, personality conflicts and politics are unavoidable.

Plant Transformation / Molecular Biology Intern

Former Employee - Plant Transformation/Molecular Biology in Johnston, IA

I worked at DuPont Pioneer as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

    - In my short time at Pioneer I learned a ton about plant science and seed production.
    - Pioneer is extremely concerned with employee safety, which is generally a good thing but can become cumbersome at times.
    - Additionally my coworkers were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and helpful.

    Cons

    - The pay was not particularly great considering my education level.
    - Although Des Moines is a nice mid-size city, outside of Des Moines there is nothing. It's tough to want to live there long term if you are not from a similarly rural area.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to invest heavily in research in order to keep pace with competitors (Monsanto).

    Pros

It is a relaxed office culture. People are very kind. I never have to worry about anyone stealing anything from me. It's a very safe environment. The talent of the employees is brilliant.

    Cons

The upper management tells us we need to work harder, when we are already working our hardest. The core value training is a little over-done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice
