I worked at DuPont full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

If you like the relative stability of large companies, DuPont is a good one. There is still a sense of community and values in the company, which also means that a fair number of good people work there.

    Cons

All the drawbacks of large, publicly held companies apply to DuPont as well. It can be very slow / bureaucratic and higher levels of management are not necessarily the best people to work with or for.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't give in to the idiots on Wall Street who will destroy everything the company stands for, including what makes it valuable.

It was a good experience. It was somewhat limiting however; I would've liked to have done more "hands-on" work.

I worked at DuPont full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The quality of co-workers is uniformly high. The cuture of the company is noticeably polite.

    Cons

It does seem that in recent years, decisions are made more and more by management in isolation. There is thus a loss of valuable thought contribution from the wider group. More subtly, the trend to less of a meeting culture provides less opportunities for individuals to grow their capabilities and to lead from any level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Time for well-fitting bolt-on acquisitions. The spinoff activity has caused sagging morale. Time for some reassurance. DuPont used to be a fun place to work. It can be again.

I have been working at DuPont full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great work atmosphere. Very open door policy. Always opportunities to learn.

    Cons

DuPont considers themselves a "Science Company" but they are mainly geared toward agriculture. If you are not in an agriculture business it feels as though you are only there to fund agriculture. Companies focus seems questionable at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the areas that are continuously making money and work to grow those.

    Great Company - Uncertain Future

I have been working at DuPont full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great work-life balance, welcoming workplace culture, strong safety mindset, plenty of internal job opportunities and room for advancement, multiple business units to try working in, and clear company goals.

    Cons

I would prefer more work locations in the northeast. The company is going through many changes with the spinoff of two large business units, DuPont Chemicals and Fluoroproducts and DuPont Titanium Technologies, recent sale of DuPont Performance Coatings, corporate reorganization, and the purchase and integration of Danisco and Genencor. I no longer see DuPont as the chemical giant I was interested in working for as the new direction of the company involves less chemical processes. While DuPont has shifted it's direction in biomaterials and advancing biotechnology, it remains uncertain if DuPont can fund those new businesses with the loss of revenue from DC&F and DTT. DuPont's engineering department is shrinking and the large projects that once existed are few and far between.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change can be good, but too much change too quickly is concerning.
