DuPont is a massive, complex international company with a rich history of product innovation and safety performance.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Wilmington, DE

ProsGood compensation and benefits. Many opportunities for growth because of the variety of businesses. Lots of variety in the company portfolio.

ConsOur part of DuPont's businesses is being 'spun off' and we are hemorrhaging talent and experience. Lack of communication does not help in high-stress scenarios, and we are in a holding pattern.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more opportunities for work at home or telecommuting to save money, instead of farming out American jobs to other countries.

    Engineer (Current Employee) Fayetteville, NC

ProsCompetitive salary; competitive 401K program with matching; extreme dedication to safety in all levels of organization; generally a very dedicated work force at all levels; lots of career opportunities; large knowledge base with numerous subject matter experts across the company

ConsThere is big percentage of people retiring in next 5 years and not enough people in place to replace (this leaves a big gap in knowledge and experience); plant site leaders do not stay in role long enough to have accountability and a vested interest in the long term site success; respect for people core value not treated with nearly as much importance as other core values; union plants pose many challenges that generate barriers , making menial tasks difficult to complete effectively.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to develop more accountability with site leadership, using feedback from the site to help drive this; need to work harder at plan to address high attrition rates.

    Great Expectations

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood pay, benefits and culture. Met my expectations when I joined two years ago.

ConsNo career plans for support group members who are not managers (they don't have CDPs!). Promotions depend on how many hats you're wearing, and I mean multi-tasking in every sense of the word, unless you start kissing manager's ___. I am yet to witness if core values actually work, but i think I've been waiting long enough.

Advice to Senior ManagementLISTEN to your employees. Keep an open mind.

    Great company to work for

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThe people at DuPont are great, culture, specially safety is one of the higest standards, overall culture is good. There is good work-life balance, managers are very understanding and they work with you in case you need help etc.

ConsYou need to manage your own career - there is a lot of talk but not much help

Good company but lots of change and unstability for next 5 years

Business Manager (Current Employee) Wilmington, DE

ProsInnovation, good strategy to try to revamp company, good leadership at top of company,(finally after terrible previous CEO Chad Holiday) who lost a lot of value for company and did not have clear direction, good work life balance except if you have leading roles. Great core values and respect for people.

ConsCompany under revolution with several acquisitions and divestitures.. Creating a lot of unstability. Many businesses have lost their leading industry position (kevlar, tedlar, performance polymers, corian, ....) not sure about loing term if no major innovation soon.... Compensation is average in industry. Still very old systems in finance, it, hr... So feeling to be in a 1990s company some time vs all the best in class process you get in tqop firtune companies. Lack of empowerement, companies tend to be very centralized in wilmington... If you are out of wilmington, you are out of sight for any career advancements.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue new strategy but chnage your old timers leaders or it will never be implemented... Reduce corporate functions to enable alignement and better implementation (ops, marketing...)

    Great learning and working environment!!!

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsEveryone is very friendly and willing to help you with any problem you may have. Great business and well structured. Competitive pay, and very safe for a chemical plant.

ConsThere is a lot of red tape to go through to get things done and the safety procedures are numerous and sometimes redundant. Previous generation did not do a good job of keeping up with the maintenance works.

    ProsNice people to work with.
Get improved in your programming skills.

ConsHard to find a financial area job if you don't have finance background.
People usually don't know what you did in DuPont and they are not very interested.

Take Work/Life Balance & Safety First Seriously

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGreat group to work with; most employees have been here for their whole career and are always willing to coach and mentor. This culture screams work/life balance.

ConsLarge company with offices all over the US; not the best at connecting and staying on the same page.

Advice to Senior ManagementAllow leaders to emerge and empower them. Don't be so cautious to make a move and feel the need to hold several conference calls when proposing something "new". Innovation is years behind other large corp.
