    Pros

I loved my time and my summer spent on the east coast with DuPont. The people were awesome, and the company culture was something that made a big different for me. Great company, paid me well and took care of traveling expenses even as an intern. Would recommend to anyone

    Cons

Average age in my division was 52.. need to have a strong, heavy influx of young talent in the coming years. Quite a few workers struggled with basics when it came to programs such as Excel

    Advice to Management

Try and retain/seek more young talent

    Pros

If you are flexible and work hard, there are many career opportunities. The people at all levels are generally very intelligent and great to work with. Great products, technology, and applications. Salary and benefits are above average.

    Cons

As is probably typical with most big companies and governments, there seems to be a disconnect between senior leadership and the 'average' employee. Lots of change right now causing significant distractions and uncertainty which may end up being very good or very bad. Good old boy / good old girl network is alive and well (who you know vs. what you know).

    Advice to Management

Continue to stand firm with outside investors and stay on the course laid out.

    I worked at DuPont

    Pros

Impressive heritage, a history of being an innovator. Good benefits, good 401k, and a very diverse workforce and leadership team. Very strong ethics and integrity.

    Cons

The company is transitioning from a chemical company into a more biotech focus and they are divesting the old assets associated with chemicals. They are too focused on what Wall St thinks about them. Very short term quarter to quarter management focus. Employees are leaving because the salary is not competitive.

    Advice to Management

Develop a longer term management philosophy. Tell the Wall St analysts to stick to crunching numbers and stop trying to tell you how to manage a manufacturing company. Continue to push new product development and R&D efforts.

    Pros

Large, stable company with a science-driven culture and huge emphasis on safety of employees. Moderate to good on salary and trying to treat people with respect.

    Cons

Can get bogged down in bureaucracy of a large company. Sometimes feels like focus on near-term profit goals gets in the way of supporting long-term scientific innovation, especially in cases where taking business risk is involved. Can be very stove-piped between business units, again limiting potential innovation and market capture.

  9. Good company to work for but has some issues with confliting priorities such as the safety-cost cutting paradox.

    Pros

Good development opportunities and great people to work with depending on the plant and the sub-business unit.

    Cons

I had a bad boss once that did not know how much her ex-employee, who she promoted to another section of the plant, was sabotaging her subordinates' work stream to get back to her for a bad review she gave him years earlier. The situation was difficult and ugly.

The company has competing priorities between making money and ensuring that sites are compliant with the company's safety policies.

    Advice to Management

Watch out for employees that are all about themselves and keep critical information from other coworkers in order to make themselves look good.

    Pros

If you like the relative stability of large companies, DuPont is a good one. There is still a sense of community and values in the company, which also means that a fair number of good people work there.

    Cons

All the drawbacks of large, publicly held companies apply to DuPont as well. It can be very slow / bureaucratic and higher levels of management are not necessarily the best people to work with or for.

    Advice to Management

Don't give in to the idiots on Wall Street who will destroy everything the company stands for, including what makes it valuable.

    Pros

Room to advance. Can receive excellent training.

    Cons

Spin off of company. Had no input on my career path after spin off announced.

    Advice to Management

Keep presenting opportunities to your employees to raise their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
