Amazing

Associate Business Analyst (Current Employee)
Charlotte, NC

I have been working at Duke Energy as a contractor for more than a year

ProsIt was like a family. Incredible place to work, everyone is so friendly and helpful.

ConsIf you don't work in the DEC building, at least it's nice to look at from the window of whichever more shabby Duke building you're in.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Duke has it's positives and negatives

Human Resources Specialist (Current Employee)
Charlotte, NC

I have been working at Duke Energy full-time for more than a year

ProsDuke has a family-like culture. It's a more laid back, non-stressful environment. Good work-life balance, a lot of people work from home on Fridays. They are trying to get more progressive but sometimes it seems like they are stuck in a good ol boys culture.

ConsI enjoy working here but there is a stagnant, non-innovating air to the corporate office. They don't convert contractors very often and they rely too much on contractors.

Duke is a great company to work for.

Wind Management (Current Employee)

I have been working at Duke Energy full-time for more than 5 years

Prospay is great. they really focus on education and do all they can to get you the education needed.
great benefits. always changing. keeps you on your toes and helps you grow.

ConsThere is a lot of favoritism to the senior people. There are hypocritical decisions made often. They say they are focusing on one thing and then make a decision that is the complete opposite.

Advice to Senior Managementmore consulting through the chains should happen before decisions are made. i see a lot of decisions made by people that don't understand the business they are leading that directly affect how the job gets done. some decisions are so far off that they cannot be followed in the field while getting the job done. This creates a whole fleet of technicians doing things against the rules to get their job done. They know the rules were created by people who have never done the job themselves so they get used to going around the rules. this creates a unsafe/unproductive behavior at times.

Good experience

Project Management Intern (Current Employee)

I have been working at Duke Energy as an intern for less than a year

Pros-Multiple chances for professional development (professional training courses, resources in company library)
-At power plants, opportunity to see the outcome of engineering projects
-Chances to get out of the office, with walk downs, trainings, and other aspects of power plant operation

Cons-Working in the nuclear side of the business, everything slows down due to heavy risk management
-It is easy to lose sight of goals for large projects, that span 4-6 years.
-Important, but security concerns/reviews/approvals can greatly impact work and schedule

Advice to Senior ManagementBe ready to make changes, the traditional utility business model may see change in the near future. Management should make sure employees and the company culture is ready for that.
