I have been working at Duke Energy full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary and Wages, Job Security, Comradery, Shift Rotation provides time off during the weekdays, and Sense of Purpose and Satisfaction

    Cons

Shift Rotation requires changing sleep schedules. Sometimes the scheduled time off does not match well with business hours, school hours, and normal 9-5 lifestyles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I recommend providing operators with more exposure to other parts of the business, be it projects, rotational positions, or pipelines to other departments.

I have been working at Duke Energy

    Pros

Meals and hotels doing storm overtime, benefits, paid training, incentive

    Cons

Rude customers, Be prepared to work unscheduled overtime all the time. 12+ hour days back to back.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide more advancement opportunities. A lot of highly educated seasoned reps on the floor that never get growth opportunities.

I have been working at Duke Energy

    Pros

This is a very stable and modern organization. The best thing about the power industry is that you're guaranteed a job until something better than electricity comes by. Upper management is very understanding to your needs.

    Cons

No cons that I can think of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to seek out employee responses.

I have been working at Duke Energy

    Pros

I have enjoyed learning new things in this company and the opportunities that were given to me. The people for the most part are all friendly and willing to help. Always something going on here.

    Cons

Not much placement opportunities. Very hard for contractors to become employees. They are not big on giving raises either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give contractors more opportunities. There are people who deserve positions more than employees do

I have been working at Duke Energy

    Pros

Large company with a lot of room to grow. Opportunities are given, and there are no glass ceilings. Company truly cares about their employees.

    Cons

It is a large company which isn't for everybody. May require a bit of travel depending on job, and if you are an individual whom doesn't like to travel, may want to read job descriptions carefully.

I have been working at Duke Energy

    Pros

The entire industry is on the brink of changing. Everything will be different, which is extremely exciting if you like solving problems. This company is well slated to tackle the US regulated utility market. No matter what you want to work on, Duke probably has it. Company is ready for HUGE growth in the next few years, which means huge opportunity.

    Cons

Old people run the show, so if you like using a 1970's thinking model, this is your place (this is not sarcasm). If you like progressive thinking and innovation, wait 5-10 years. Over half the company can retire in 5 years. The older generation is backing up the pipeline for personal promotion and advancement, which hurts the company.
They don't understand global environments. The new CEO cut ties to international organizations. She has no vision for what growth looks like in the 21st century--too small of a thinker.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer a package to the old people and get them out of the way. Hire younger people into senior management on merit, not on politics. Thin out middle management--paying for them to stay employed and clog up productivity makes customer bills higher.
