    Pros

    - Excellent pay and benefits for an internship - Coworkers and managers were exceptionally friendly and professional - Great exposure to VP's and Directors - Work-life balance was encouraged Overall, I was treated like a consultant, given a variety of responsibilities and great feedback from the various teams that I worked with in HR. Also, I was able to participate in the community volunteering program which was very rewarding.

    Cons

    - Somewhat of an "old-school" mentality (i.e., slow to change/innovate) - Frequent re-organizations and a limited budget for new hires (Nitpicking at this point)

    Pros

Career development - they allow you to rotate relatively easily around the company to allow you to get a pretty good experience.

    Cons

One con is the difficulty of which it is to fire those who severely under-perform. Also, Human Resources seems to be involved too much and too time consuming with all of their various processes especially new employee on-boarding.

    Advice to Management

Management needs to be direct with employees as much as possible, and transparent with all decision making that impacts their team.

    Pros

Interesting place to work. Industry is quickly changing. Fair compensation and opportunities for advancement. Values employees. Excellent job security. Safety of employees and communities are very high priorities.

    Cons

Slow moving sometimes. Heavily regulated. "Old school" mentality is still in effect in some departments. Has a stigma associated with it as a "fossil fuel burning" company.

    Pros

+ Great training opportunities + Engineering team really took interest in helping me learn their systems + Strong Young Generation In Nuclear (YGN) and IEEE presences + Lots of experienced people - great network for the Nuclear industry

    Cons

    - Pay decrease for the second year I interned due to budget constraints - Not an issue for interns, but engineers are often heavily overworked during "crunch" times - outages related to the project, major milestones, and so forth. Note that they are well compensated for their overtime. - Bring your own lunch; cafeteria is boring and often very unhealthy

    Advice to Management

    - More intern panels and similar intern events would be nice - Decrease in salary for a second year intern is hard to swallow - A health initiative would be a good thing - healthy people perform better

    Pros

The people are supportive and the projects are challenging and exciting. The company has a good culture and likes to do things the right way.

    Cons

The pay is lower than other options in town. The company has grown so big that it's tougher to get work done.

    Advice to Management

You are doing a great job but as the market gets tighter so will be the ability to hold onto younger talent.

    Pros

Duke Energy offers a work life balance. Co-workers are great people, and a wealth of knowledge. Good location in uptown Charlotte.

    Cons

There are not many cons to working at Duke Energy. If I had to choose I would say they are slow to change sometimes and government like

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. Duke gets a bad public perception, however Duke provides a noble service, electricity. They need to continue to educate the public.
