    Pros

The people are mostly very nice and easy to work with.

    Cons

The firm is very, very cheap.

  2. Would be a great company if Chicago was the corporate office

    Pros

Good people, regular run of the mill corporate office feel. They do try to do nice things for employees to make it a more enjoyable atmosphere. Nice offices.

    Cons

Honestly, the worst is that Detroit makes all the decisions and are very behind the times. If Chicago could make their own decisions it would be much better. Additionally, way to many manager on top of managers. You have to answer to 20 different people and no one really can help without involving all the others.

    Advice to Management

More training on a specific basis, not general for everyone. Also, a lead manager, not twenty!

  3. Serves its purpose, was able to put food on the table while working there but not much else.

    Pros

Benefits are good, attorneys are mostly nice and HR does what they can with what they have to work with. Vacation time is four weeks if you are there over 10 years.

    Cons

Low pay, firm seems unstable, i.e., Detroit office calls the shots and they are probably not in the best position to be making financial decisions that impact the entire firm, second the no-diversity comment from previous poster

    Advice to Management

Don't let your attorneys that bill millions of dollars every year walk out the door with their clients. Recent layoffs to save money only make the firm look bad overall and reinforce the Detroit mentality.

    Pros

The people are nice, technology is up to date and the firm has an open door policy. Coworkers are very helpful and they really stress teamwork and work-life balance.

    Cons

Upper management is a little clueless about what is going on with the associates. Unfortunately, if there is not a specific partner that takes you under their wing, you are not going to make your hours and will have a very difficult time finding significant projects to develop your skills. There is still a bit of a good ole boys mentality at this law firm and they need to be consistent about working on diversity. There is a lot of diversity with the staff but not a lot of diversity with the attorneys.

    Advice to Management

Focus on diversity and take an interest in junior and mid-level associates to ensure they are getting the work to grow their skills.

  6. Great people, flawed business strategy

    Pros

There are many very fine attorneys there. They are very competent in their areas of practice, and are fun to work with. There are no "screamers" or jerks. Every single one was pleasant to everyone, including to the staff.

    Cons

The efforts of firm leadership to maintain the "center of gravity" in Michigan is holding the firm back.

    Advice to Management

Let the Chicago office flourish. The entire firm will benefit as a result.

    Pros

Nice office space to work in

    Cons

The former COO and Chairman of the firm were clueless when it came to the employee moral they created. Unfortuately they were there 8 years too long.

    Advice to Management

I would give advice, but I'm not getting paid for it.
