    Great company, great opportunities

Manager (Current Employee) Falls Church, VA

ProsFocus on leadership and learning provide great opportunities for people who are intellectually curious. Diversification that the company has seen in the last several years - into commercial/international - is an exciting shift for a company that has traditionally been U.S. government-focused.

ConsThe government services industry faces significant challenges given U.S. government budget constraints that will likely impact any company in the space.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to value employees and focus on improving the culture of the company.

    Great place to work.

Director (Current Employee) Falls Church, VA

ProsThe CEO was the first person I met on my first day--he presented at orientation for a couple of hours. The office was closing early due to dangerous weather and, yet, there he was. I was immediately impressed by Steve Gaffney and the company and every day I work here, I firmly believe this company lives its values. The people in the office are friendly. The online employee tools (training, policies & procedures, time tracking, expense reports, HR, etc.) are excellent. The newsletters are informative. I work with very smart people, the work is engaging, and I feel like management really cares about me. My management team (not just my immediate manager, but all the way up) meets with me to discuss my level of job satisfaction. I don't feel like a number here--I feel like a human being. The corporate growth strategy appears to be well aligned with the needs of the market and the work reflects a genuine interest and commitment to being successful.

ConsIt's just a shame more companies don't operate this way. I don't have anything negative to say about DI.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the great work!

Five years in the land of career opportunity, rewarding challenge and a values-based culture.

Senior Manager (Current Employee) Falls Church, VA

ProsDI has a values-based culture with leadership who walk the talk. Lots of opportunity and upward mobility for those who are willing to work hard. Supporting our nation in its endeavors around the world is a huge plus.

ConsWork life balance is a challenge for many. But the work is incredibly rewarding.

Advice to Senior ManagementContinue to enforce values with leadership around the world and hold those accountable whose performance may be strong but whose behaviors are lacking.

We hold you all in high esteem.

Also, consider a formal telecommuting program or 9/80's for employees who are giving much of their personal time to help the company succeed. Averaging 50 hours of work a week equates to an employee giving the company an extra 65 days of service. Something formal would be especially important to lower level employees who receive no additional incentive.

If you know your stuff and need little help, GO FOR IT.

Employee (Current Employee) Fort Worth, TX

ProsSalary and benefits are king! If you really know your stuff and have an ample amount of experience i.e. 10 years or more, then this is a great paying, I mean awesome paying job that should not be passed up. Well, provided you are a single person or have a very patient spouse who doesn't mind waiting for you while you put some dough away for your future.

ConsComunication. After having to meet some pretty strict criteria to get the job, you may feel a bit ripped off by some of the inexperienced individuals that pop up every now and then. The lines of communication leave something to be desired which is no atmosphere for the inexperienced in my opinion.

Advice to Senior ManagementFeedback is the best keyword. When asked for information, at least let someone know you are awake received the request and are working on it.

Best work environment in terms of safety

Water Laboratory Technician (Former Employee) Kabul (Afghanistan)

ProsGreat human resources department which was responsive to employees needs especially when it concerned their safety, salaries, movements and working relations.

ConsTime off was limited 30 days annually. Working at 12 hours a day ,7 days a week was stressful.

Advice to Senior ManagementReview company policy especially in terms of R&R.

    Awesome Dynamic Company

EOD Specialist/Security Lead/Senior EOD Technical Adviser (Former Employee) Kabul (Afghanistan)

ProsGreat HR, Finance Department.Excellent compliance ethos. Never an issue with corporate, and they went many extra miles when abrupt endings occurred on contracts they had.

ConsSome Senior project management lacked skills in administrating and managing people. Many were hired for their credentials, rather then their abilities.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou have a good program, provided excellent overall support and handled the day to day issues well. More clarity of what field management can and can't do would be appreciated.

Great opportunity to do some highly challenging work with an awesome team.

    Adviser (Former Employee) Kabul (Afghanistan)

ProsPay was always on time. Great travel benefits. Afforded the leeway to be dynamic in the performance of my duties.

ConsHR support could be much better. HQs seemed to focus on HQs issues versus the mission that was providing them the revenue.

Advice to Senior ManagementFocus on supporting what is happening with the revenue earners and how to build a leaner HQ.
