    Defense Contracting is contracting

    Senior Accountant (Current Employee)
    Fort Worth, TX

ProsThere are opportunities for advancement if you are ambitious, smart and willing to work hard. Decent benefits.

ConsGovernment contractors experienced massive growth during the Bush years and now the cycle has turned. Currently in 2014 this is a very challenged sector with downsizing occurring on an ongoing basis.

Advice to Senior ManagementInformation and knowledge is very compartmentalized and difficult to obtain, creating an inefficient work environment and often inconsistent results. A greater emphasis should be placed on leveraging the knowledge of SMEs who can greatly reduce the learning curve for more inexperienced or temporary staff.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Lack of good communication

    Munitions (Current Employee)

ProsThe benefits offered are good for overseas.

ConsWorking for retired military, stuck in their old ways. Long hours. Generally 2 days off a month.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnforce code of ethics. Complaints go up and nothing is ever done to abusers.

    Constant change with many challenges

    COMBS Quality Assurance (Current Employee)
    Columbus, MS

ProsThere are a few incentive rewards with healthcare to earn reward money. Fair amount of places to get discounts and perks, ie. AT&T. Tuition assistance is very generous along with relocation reimbursement.

ConsUpper management does not know what is going on or how to run the program. There are many issues, one being the current health insurance change and no coverage in this area. Possibility of layoffs and a reduced workforce. Overtime has currently been banned due to the budget.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management needs to be informed of what it is really like to work at a site and realize that the great plans that are drawn up in a cubical, will always work. Professional micromanagers and this creates issues as one can imagine.

Great company at times. The program / management team an employee has will either make you love or hate the company.

    Supervisor (Current Employee)
    Fort Worth, TX

ProsGood people, strong values, decent benefits, competitive pay, military / vet friendly, branching into commercial contracts in addition to government contracts.

ConsLimited options for promotions and employee development. HR policies seem contradictory. Company owners have changed the way enterprise functions.. and it hasn't benefited the employees at all.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in your current people rather than bringing on new VPs.

    Great opportunities but limited advancement

    Field Service Representative (Current Employee)
    Dallas, TX

    ProsGood medical and 401k benefits

ConsOpportunity for advancement being a contractor is limited

Advice to Senior ManagementMore selective screening of personnel for technical jobs should take place for highly skilled positions, ie just because someone changed oil on trucks does not make them qualified to work on all systems of a vehicle, extensive background and previous employer's should be contacted for references
