I have been working at DynCorp International

    Pros

The company does not have very many 'pros.' When you are working a contract for this company, you are only a number to which they must pay an income.

    Cons

No consistent raises and/or incentives. On exit after company lost its recompete bid, it used underhanded tactics to give employees less of their hard earned income due to a 'last-day=first day of pay-period' so no matter how many hours of 'authorized' overtime the employee worked, they received 8 hours of pay! Then, during the next to last pay period, the company did NOT pay out EARNED VACATION TIME! Unsat!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You might want to NOT pinch pennies with departing employees who have earned you very GREAT profits throught their tireless efforts! Gives your company a very cheap appearance!

I worked at DynCorp International full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, Good work/life balance, Good benefits.

    Cons

Neglected to build good teamwork among immediate teams and cross functional teams. Need to review policies on bullying, diversity and proper treatment of co-workers (constant bickering, picking on individuals, arguing among workers). Good employees will not want to stay here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave the egos at the door. Just because they have years of experience doesn't mean they can treat people any way they want. Make corrections immediately with employees and build a team and don't allow certain individuals to break the team down.

I worked at DynCorp International as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Get your foot in the door for contracting, the company doesn't care about you or your bills.

    Cons

Management, no room for growth, HR tells you one thing and then you have to do different even though its unethical.

I worked at DynCorp International full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Serve and support our military and Department of State all over the world. Recognition to families that have lost ones that were DynCorp employees. Great people on the ground that work hard and love what they do. Hire a lot of former military.

    Cons

At high levels of leadership, they don't follow their published values, it is mostly for show. Let go of good people and they retain the political ones and no employment security. Company is in turmoil due to poor leadership, a lot of been fired but seems as if some are still there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Private equity company, retain those who produce and don't get fooled by political and suit characters who tend to be all air about themselves.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Lots of work to do. The people are great and you get to help those that serve this great country.

    Cons

Cerberus (owner) is killing the company since they keep trying to bring in commercial best practices in the a government / military world. It just doesn't work.

Also teams are too lean as it stands. Once LOGCAP goes away the company will be hurting. Plus they are one huge contract away from imploding since they barely have the staff to keep the lights on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, many have which been with the company for over 10 years. Also, get away from Cerberus as fast as you can or they will totally sink the ship and alot of good people will loose their jobs.

I worked at DynCorp International full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people to work with, some opportunity if you are former military and know how to be a political animal.

    Cons

Top leadership is fluid, 3 CEOs in 4 years, layoffs are frequent, no pay raises no matter how well you perform, "You get to keep your job"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Why bother, they wouldn't listen.

I worked at DynCorp International full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fairly diverse- good representation of international employees and veterans.

    Cons

Constantly changing/ reducing benefits without warning. Company claims to be veteran friendly but its really just a marketing ploy aimed at securing contracts. There is very limited room for advancement outside your prescribed initial duties and the company's reputation still suffers from past transgretions. It feels filthy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit trimming already limited benefits. Focus efforts- quit attempting to fill every need of the federal gov't and specialize, preferably outside of defense.

    Disappointed

I worked at DynCorp International full-time

    Pros

Pay and benefits are above average.

    Cons

Senior Management is totally out of touch with the workforce. Employee ideas are not given any consideration, and people work out of fear of losing their job. Management has a "pass the buck" mentality and "good old boy" network mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to value and appreciate the value of employees. Remove the managing by fear element and hold yourselves accountable instead of pointing fingers when things don't go as planned. Embrace the team concept that is preached but not practiced!

    Pros

A great learning experience working on various government contracts.

    Cons

Poor management, poor HR department, low employee morale, constant layoffs, costly benefits, not even average pay, long hours, no overtime paid, and they do NOT follow the DI STAR that they claim is so important.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to treat your employees. Learn to listen and take action when needed. Learn to solve employee issues.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Been here a long time and make good salary.
Big campaign to promote their ethics and culture.
I am trusted and respected for my skills and knowledge for the most part, which is as I expect to get anywhere, as I highly skilled and have 2.5 decades of expertise.

    Cons

Extremely unstable; employees live in culture of fear and exhaustion. Rounds of lay offs every year if you are not a union employee working a specific contract. Funding for various projects is always hard to come by even for regular much needed maintenance.
2 years of zero merit pay increases across the board and benefits reduced.
AWFUL work hours on call 24x7 for weeks at a time. Some weekends worked continuously.
Very top down organizational chain of command with a strong reaction to employee's voicing questions or criticism. Not a collaborative culture.
    Very few opportunities for advancement.
The promotion of the DI Start as their ethics and culture is superficial. SR management does not act it out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make employees feel valued with even a tiny pay increase. Stop the executive and senior management perks. Stop trying to trim the corporate overhead jobs, cutting benefits, and constantly rearranging the reporting structure. So much change is not making it better, only creating doubt and fear. Create opportunities for employees to grow their skill and value.
