    Pros

    A great learning experience working on various government contracts.

    Cons

    Poor management, poor HR department, low employee morale, constant layoffs, costly benefits, not even average pay, long hours, no overtime paid, and they do NOT follow the DI STAR that they claim is so important.

    Advice to Management

    Learn how to treat your employees. Learn to listen and take action when needed. Learn to solve employee issues.

    Pros

    Been here a long time and make good salary.
    Big campaign to promote their ethics and culture.
    I am trusted and respected for my skills and knowledge for the most part, which is as I expect to get anywhere, as I highly skilled and have 2.5 decades of expertise.

    Cons

    Extremely unstable; employees live in culture of fear and exhaustion. Rounds of lay offs every year if you are not a union employee working a specific contract. Funding for various projects is always hard to come by even for regular much needed maintenance.
    2 years of zero merit pay increases across the board and benefits reduced.
    AWFUL work hours on call 24x7 for weeks at a time. Some weekends worked continuously.
    Very top down organizational chain of command with a strong reaction to employee's voicing questions or criticism. Not a collaborative culture.
    Very few opportunities for advancement.
    The promotion of the DI Start as their ethics and culture is superficial. SR management does not act it out.

    Advice to Management

    Make employees feel valued with even a tiny pay increase. Stop the executive and senior management perks. Stop trying to trim the corporate overhead jobs, cutting benefits, and constantly rearranging the reporting structure. So much change is not making it better, only creating doubt and fear. Create opportunities for employees to grow their skill and value.

    Pros

    The pay is still higher than most positions in el paso of the same skill set.

    Cons

    as far as contractor work goes, the pay is on the low end. Provided benefits will cost you a third of your pay check. Supervision is fifty fifty on getting a competent supervisor or not. Will get laid off soon after hire due to poor hiring schedules.

    Advice to Management

    Figure out who are your best assets, and do not lay them off, especially when they have more time working for you than others recently hired for the same position.

    Hire competent leads to do the job. The lead should be able to handle all tasks assigned to them, and not bend the rules for coworkers they are friends with.

    Pros

    The lower level of management and their staff are very good hard working people.
    Compensation is good
    Benefits are Ok
    Challenging tasks

    Cons

    Management has no sense of direction
    Too many changes in organization structure
    Too many VP’s & Sr. Directors
    Poor training for new hires
    Very poor HR department it is all about protecting the company but not the employee
    Too many complaints never addressed
    Poor employee moral
    Favoritism
    No merit increase for the last 3 years
    Constant increasing benefit cost
    Reduced 401K company match
    The business is decreasing and poor business development
    Do not care about employee’s wellbeing or their life outside of work the company is demanding more hours.
    Directors and up are very demanding and very good at blaming others

    Advice to Management

    Need to clean house, take care of your hard working people

    Pros

    If you get in with the right manager/Sr. Leadership member, you can get promoted quickly and paid well. It was about 40 min from where I live and the surrounding environment offered great shopping and lunch options. I worked in the Corp home office in Ft Worth, and had the opportunity to travel. I learned a great deal there.

    Cons

    There is no work life balance, and the company values that they push publically is not what the actual culture is. It is everyone for themselves and when you try and build a team, it is pulled apart. I have never worked in a more gossip oriented environment in my career. No stability in leadership, with a high turnover in all programs.

    Advice to Management

    Value your teams that do all the work, and make the impossible tasks happen. Stop hiring friends and family and start promoting the professionals who are qualified for the pay and positions that they hold. Recognize achievements and improve the culture. Appreciate your employees not just the Sr. Leadership.

    Pros

    The best thing about working for DynCorp is that I got the opportunity to travel and see the world. If you are new to contracting, this is a good way to get your foot in the door because they will hire any one. But while overseas, I had the opportunity to network and meet contractors from other companies.

    Cons

    By far the worst company I have ever worked for,. They truly don't care about their employees and there is no work ethic. Its all about making that money. There was absolutely no consistency or standards. It seemed like every day there was a new change to the SOP or WI. And no standardized training! The bosses would put together a crappy PowerPoint in like 20 minutes and make us read it and sign something acknowledging we've been trained just to cover their behinds. The answer to everything was to wait until a problem got out of control instead of trying to prevent it ahead of time, and then try to cover it up with a ban-aid. I could go on talking about the lack of qualified management. This was the WRM contract, so I can't speak for the rest of the company.

    Pros

    Good pay and benefits. Met some great friends.

    Cons

    Employees with children and families are favored over single, childless employees as if single people have no life. Being single does not mean I want to stay late so a parent can go home on time to pick up and take care of a child. Never could make plans afterwork, no advanced notice of overtime hours. Normal hours were 8-5 but sometimes you were excepted to work odd shift hours such as midnight to 9am, 5am-5pm, etc.

    Expected to not take your lunch hour.

    Deadlines are unreasonable and last minute. Management not willing to stand up and demand deadlines that aren't so tight and last minute.

    Gave awards for outstanding performances that came with a cash award. Unfortunately, one person won the award for "placing a decal on a plane." Often awarded those that were simply doing their job. Overlooked those that went over and above and did many jobs.

    Military employees looked down on and treated non-military employees horribly.

    Lots of sexism in the workplace.

    Had to constantly take ethics training, including how retaliation was not allowed. It happened all of the time.

    Bullying was a large part of how they got things done.

    Never looked forward to going to work.

    Must account for how you spent your time at work and on what project. You'd be screwed if you were actually efficient and got done early.

    After expecting you to stay crazy hours they couldn't even provide decent coffee. At one time they offered individual coffee creamers in many flavors, provided plates and plastic cutlery. After one of the many CEO changes the plates, cutlery, creamers were gone. Creamer was replaced with generic powdered crap. Generic sweeteners. No more tea, hot cocoa, etc.

    Pros

    I want to be able to put something, but I honestly can't think of anything positive to say. If you are out of a job and they will hire you, go for it (at least it's a paycheck), but I wouldn't leave a decent job to go here.

    Cons

    Employee morale is in the toilet. Constant threat of layoffs for the worker bees, but yet they have an over abudance of VPs. No pay raises for the last two years, but mgmt still paid themselves a bonus. Managers can't or won't make decisions. Too much red tape, but it's a government contractor so I guess that's to be expected. Really depends what group you are in, some groups are expected to work themselves to death. Seems to be a better balance in the field or on contracts than in corporate office. Advancement opportunities are practically non existant. You might be able to make a lateral move but unless you are "in the club" you won't be moving up anytime soon. They are stuck in old fashioned ways "because that's how we've always done it". Company gets bought/sold on a regular basis, so the structure is constantly changing. As soon as the dust begins to settle from one sale, the next one happens. The only thing that stays the same here is change, but it all seems to focus on superficial things that create more work. I did not feel valued as an employee at all.

    Advice to Management

    If you would accept that your employees are your most valuable asset and brought back things like jeans Friday, and actually put an effort into improving morale you would do infinetely better. People know they are expendable at DI. The constant threat of layoffs causes your best people to leave voluntarily before they are cut, so you end up with the poor performers sticking around. You need to put some effort into training people - new hires leave so quickly because they are thrown to the wolves with ZERO training or support. Pick a direction and stick with it for more than 5 min to see if if actually has an impact.

    Pros

    Good Salary, some very good qualified people, not much else good to say about Dyncorp

    Cons

    Disorganized, no direction, lack of planning, management does not listen to employees, to much turnover from layoffs and voluntary, long hours expected by all.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to your employees, find other ways than layoffs to keep the bottom line looking good. You know the government is going to be cyclical, but you consistently hit the hard working people with layoffs instead of finding another way. Live the Code of Conduct instead of just spouting it.

    Pros

    Enjoyed most of my co-workers. Other departments did not seem to have the issues staffing did.

    Cons

    Sr. Management needs better communication with employees
