I have been working at DynCorp International full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Gaffney's vision, leadership, mentoring. Completely different company since Cerberus bought us.

    Cons

"It's not my job"; "It's the COE's fault", "COE's do not support us" and like statements from middle management and below that tarnish relationships.
Common statements within BATs and COEs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't compound bad decision made several years ago and perpetuate it. It might be better to snap a chalk line and start over.

I have been working at DynCorp International as a contractor for more than 5 years

    Pros

Worker bees are ok to work with

    Cons

No room for advancement for women. No training. Key positions filled by friends and family, not qualified personnel. Job postings are rigged, only opened for 1 day or closed and reopened so the people who applied the first time are no longer in the running. HR is a JOKE, no educational background or training to even be in HR.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How about look at people who have been with the program for the total number of years and not just in the same payroll company before deciding who has longevity or not.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There are opportunities for advancement if you are ambitious, smart and willing to work hard. Decent benefits.

    Cons

Government contractors experienced massive growth during the Bush years and now the cycle has turned. Currently in 2014 this is a very challenged sector with downsizing occurring on an ongoing basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Information and knowledge is very compartmentalized and difficult to obtain, creating an inefficient work environment and often inconsistent results. A greater emphasis should be placed on leveraging the knowledge of SMEs who can greatly reduce the learning curve for more inexperienced or temporary staff.

I have been working at DynCorp International as a contractor for more than 3 years

    Pros

The benefits offered are good for overseas.

    Cons

Working for retired military, stuck in their old ways. Long hours. Generally 2 days off a month.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Enforce code of ethics. Complaints go up and nothing is ever done to abusers.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

After April 2013 working in IT got 75% better. A lot of improvements have been made within the IT department as a whole and there are good IT managers willing to give you a chance to move up if you work hard. Training is okay. Most of the training I've gotten to advance my career has been done on my own initiative, at my own expense, and on my own time. There is a lot of opportunity to learn and get experience with a wide spectrum of technologies. Not a lot of perks company wise that I can think of.

    Cons

As far as job security, it's only good when there's a major war going on.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay is decent looking from the outside in, but once you are in you receive more and more tasks.

    Cons

Some of the worst management. Employees are belittled, micro-managed, and at times harrased and it is accepted by Human Resources. Retaliation is also a fear all employees have. Management sticks together even if proven wrong. Human Resources is there to protect management and the company NOT the employee. Company is all about metrics instead of taking the time to take care of the customer. This company is also all about who you know. Opportunities are given to only certain people.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There are a few incentive rewards with healthcare to earn reward money. Fair amount of places to get discounts and perks, ie. AT&T. Tuition assistance is very generous along with relocation reimbursement.

    Cons

Upper management does not know what is going on or how to run the program. There are many issues, one being the current health insurance change and no coverage in this area. Possibility of layoffs and a reduced workforce. Overtime has currently been banned due to the budget.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs to be informed of what it is really like to work at a site and realize that the great plans that are drawn up in a cubical, will always work. Professional micromanagers and this creates issues as one can imagine.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Great support from management at all levels. Being able to just get away to Dubai for three days is a bonus.

    Cons

Very harsh environment, so if you have allergies to dust this is most definitely not the place for you. The summer will burn your biscuits as in HOT HOT HOT.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take the time to be there for your subordinates especially during this period of the project.

    Pros

Strong company values for which people are held accountable; companywide sense of pride in the mission - people care about the work they are doing; opportunities to learn more to advance your career are limitless

    Cons

Market dynamics make this a challenging time for anyone who contracts with the U.S. government; not a place for those just looking to "show-up" each day who are not invested in the work they do

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to focus on core values across company; continue to hold people accountable for delivering results and living the company values
