The experience gained here was rewarding in supporting our troops and the US Navy Fleet directly.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Multiudes of different equipment to work on, and write new NDI Techiques. I never know what is going to come through my doors.

    Cons

Lack of training incentives to progress, to learn more, at least new currnet techniques To many individuals carrying the administrative load of people in higher places, preventing the artisians to progress.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A little more discipline with consequences is needed across the board. If you lead by example people will respect you, and they will follow.

I worked at DynCorp International full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

This is a great company to work. They have good ethics and training programs for employees. I would go back to work for this company under the right managers.

    Cons

Management sometimes does not get all the information needed to make decisions. In some instances management takes the word of others instead of coming to their own conclusions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They should screen managers and offer classes on management to managers as to how to communicate more effectively.

    Pros

Good pay and union support, the people I worked with were top notch people. They provide a good travel bonus.

    Cons

They have a lack of vision, expensive benefits, the cost of living is very high. There is not a lot of things to do in the area unless you go the D.C. or Baltimore.

I worked at DynCorp International full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Program Manager came and visited quite frequently showed interest and concern.
    Pay raises were decent.

    Cons

No matter if you worked or lazy, everyone got the same pay raise.
Were too easy going, not all personnel were held accountable for their actions.
Kept the same excess baggage throughout the length of the contract.
Literacy tests and basic skills should have to be demonstrated when getting paid this well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward those who work and care, send the slackers out the gate.

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The pay is pretty decent depending on what you do. The benefits are pretty good as well.

    Cons

Excessive favortism shown to friends of management with job opportunities. Management discourages anything regarding promotions with intimidation. A lot of double standards but they are minimal in severity, just aggravating to see.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Conduct honest assessments rather than "checking the block" so hard working employees are recognized for their hard work. Also, please do away with the "good ole boy system". There is nothing more frustrating than seeing a supervisor appoint (promote) a friend instead of another qualified person.

I worked at DynCorp International as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

DynCorp employees proactive, smart people who are a pleasure to work with in its office environment. The managers have a large network of resources and are constantly training to improve their job skills.

    Cons

Travel is a must. Most jobs require light to heavy travel including overseas where many of their contracts are.

Current Employee - IT Manager in Fort Worth, TX

I have been working at DynCorp International full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The Information Technology department is constantly working toward a standards-based ITIL compliant process structure, which means that IT personnel are able to better control the pace of problem response, and prioritzie work more effectively. Additionally, I have never been anywhere where I was able to steer my own development quite as much as I've been able to do at DI.

    Cons

The Alliance location isn't particularly well managed from a work-space considerations standpoint. Over-crowding, too little parking, and ever-decreasing cubicle spaces are a chronic problem with this company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix the crowding problems. Make Change Management in IT a little more user-friendly. Don't require documentation that isn't necessary, or doesn't make sense to the Change process. Improve documentiaton overall, especially in the CI aspect of the CMDB.
