    Pros

Work/life balance, some of the products

    Cons

Pay, ESPP (or lack thereof), the people (can you say "C"-team?), management (old regime that is), culture, environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Although most of the culprits have seemingly been flushed out, there are a few very, very unqualified Director's and VP's. Plus, too many good people have been lost lately because the ineffective placed blame at the bottom.. until it trickled back up that is. Kudos to the new CEO for recognizing...

I have been working at E*TRADE Financial full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Salary and benefits aren't bad. The staff is great! The company seems to be getting its act together from a profitability point of view.

    Cons

Most managers from director on up to senior management are some of the meanest people I have worked with anywhere. Extreme micro-management combined with arrogant, unappreciative managers has lead to low morale and some turnover. In spite of decent salaries, the raises are quite terrible. Senior management does not seem to have any vision for the future which makes for further complacency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's quite clear that management has given up. There is no vision and no innovation. Instead of pretending that the company has a future, just admit that the company is just doing enough to sell.

I worked at E*TRADE Financial full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

National corp discounts, relaxed dress code, work from home, approves expense reports quickly, out of the office outings were great. Very flexible on taking vacations during the year.

    Cons

Upper management does not listen, no advancement, long hours, HR dept is caught in between. Addressed internal issues to HR and they finally address them after 6 months...that's way too long! I was promised a review after 60 days and it didn't take place until I pushed it and by that time to was 6 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees concerns...more people would stick around

I have been working at E*TRADE Financial full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

OK benefits, nothing special. Cafeteria in building. Nice location in midtown. Company sounds cool on a resume.

    Cons

Never experienced such a hostile work environment in all of my career. Culture of every man for himself and zero accountability. Peter Principle in full effect here. Majority of employees find themselves in the middle of the "blame game", having to constantly defend themselves from verbally abusive coworkers. Some of these known repeat offenders are completely out of control. HR mentality seems to encourage this behavior. People with real skill and talent will never be rewarded at this company. Morale is low, heads are down, and people avoid eye contact. Stress is high, tension is thick, and good people jump ship at the first opportunity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Longevity does not equate to capability. The whole of the executive suite is a nightmare to deal with- from the laughably incompetent secretaries to the disconnected executives who clearly only care about their paychecks. This trickle down effect sets the tone for the rest of the office, and is unfortunately making the company a very unpleasant place to work.

I worked at E*TRADE Financial full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

strong emphasis on technology, latest trading technologies, advanced trading platform, global trading.

    Cons

Lack of accountability and disconnectedness of operations in Manilla. Inability to contact operations directly to jointly resolve escalated problems. Strong emphasis on cost savings through brokers in Manilla who frequently misunderstand words in English. Clients only get to speak with Americans once they become frustrated with Manilla reps.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees with more respect. Randomly demanding mandatory overtime on weekends or other inconvenient times puts demands on employees that are worth more than just being paid overtime pay. Trying to motivate employees to do more work for free by calling work a "game" insults employee intelligence as employees are there to make a living and do not work to play games. More incentives are needed for additional work requirements as this is not a cost savings strategy.
