I have been working at E*TRADE Financial full-time for more than a year

    Pros

This is a great place to get your 7 and 63, heck even more. paid training for 7 & 63 can't be beat. Plenty of overtime if you need extra cash. Overall i learned so much coming out of college and there aren't many opportunities in this area of finance in Atlanta at the moment.

    Cons

Compensation for lead generation can be boosted.

The company uses cutting edge and open source technologies.Company provides good work environment and focus on framework based development approach to improve productivity.

    Cons

Unlimited comp for sales on the FC side

I have been working at E*TRADE Financial full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Unlimited comp for sales on the FC side I love it it makes me very motivated to work hard.
I am happy my manager gives me the space to sell to the right clients. The clients that want and need advice. Many need advice but just do not want it so you need to sift thru to find someone that "gets" that putting all their money in a 12 cent gold mining stock will most likely not help them reach retirement with a good size nest egg.
Given 200mm book to work with huge opportunity but can hurt you.
A get the job done culture!

    Cons

*Operations and TOA are way understaffed should have 30-50 people full time. E*TRADE could bring in an additional 10-25% or more in assets and retention if they refined this area in particular.
    * There should be a positive small revenue share on your practice/book that exceeds threshold or
    * Threshold feels more like a "steal take"
*UMA needs a bond manager yesterday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at how other discounters execute operations and TOA then copy what they do well.
I am not sure is Paul is wanting to grow us or sell us? I prefer grow there is an enormous opportunity to grab more market share from TD and Schwab.

I have been working at E*TRADE Financial full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Many opportunites to grow whithin. One can start at the bottom and with hard work and the right attitude can easily move up to more rewarding positions.

    Cons

Compensation could be better. This industry requires talented people to innovate and stay ahead of the curve. Pay seems lower compared to other companies

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep the culture as it is and design fairer compensation package throughout the organization. Identify key personnel that keeps the business running and the compensate them based on merit.

I worked at E*TRADE Financial full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Pays decent, mostly flexible, an overall pretty good place to work. Not necessarily a lifetime opportunity, but definitely a great place to lead to better opportunities.

    Cons

Management is full of real 'jerk' type of personalities. They almost seem to reward the 'barker screamer' type over actual competence. Which leads to many departments being run by barking idiots over actual competent people. If you have any real talent, most likely, you won't stay here long-term. A good place as a launching pad for talented people, then take your talents to a better place.

I have been working at E*TRADE Financial for more than a year

    Pros

Pay you to get your Series 7 and Series 63 license, benefits are very good, starting pay is decent. Learn a good deal about the financial world in a short amount of time, very applicable if you move to another financial job. All my managers but one were great people to work with, and always there to help. You get a 10% pay increase for working any hours past 5 pm, and any time on the weekends. Business casual dress.

    Cons

You are monitored on everything you do, from taking exactly a 15 min break, to "unscheduled" bathroom breaks. You phone and computer are tied together and you must "code" you phone to what you are doing, so they now what you are doing all the time. Job can get very monotonous and repetitive. Can be easy to get burnt out. E*trade is open 24/7, so you if you get stuck on the night shift, it can be a while before you get back to regular hours. You have to try to get "leads" for the company (7-10 a week) and you don't get any additional pay for going the extra mile and getting them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ease up on the 24/7 monitoring, would be nice to get a little compensation for leads.

    Pros

Hard working, proud employees. Underdog mentality led to trying to achieve a greater good for the company. Benefits were competitive.

    Cons

Executive team turnover. Bad balance sheet management effected everybody. Young sales organization did not have the resources or training to effectively manage sales force.

Former Employee - Operations Specialist in Jersey City, NJ

I worked at E*TRADE Financial full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Laid back and low pressure environment. Management very accommodating of adjusting work schedules and time off. Adjustable work schedules as long as you put in 8 hours and get work done. Pay is OK taking into consideration nature of work. Management really looks out for employees. Co-workers were all very friendly and approachable. Collegial work atmosphere among different departments.

    Cons

Work can be routine and unexciting. Layoffs can be rampant especially in Operations. Can get stuck in mediocre position for long time with little pay increases and not much advancement opportunities due to business climates. Low turnover and staff cutbacks which reduces growth opportunities.

    Neutral Outlook
