I have been working at E. & J. Gallo as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

It is a huge opportunity to work at what is the largest wine producer in the world, and seeing how a large company works is a great experience. Very relationship oriented, a lot of who you know, which is great when your manager knows everyone!

    Cons

things tend to be redone a lot because of lack of clear communication and book keeping. getting access to the areas you need is also a huge pain to go through a 3rd party IT department.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

try to look at the projects that are being done and spec what will be required appropriately. several other interns are working hard every day, and are trying to keep up, while my project is relatively easy, and could have had another project.

    I have been working at E. & J. Gallo full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Freedom to run your own portfolio of accounts. Good opportunity to get outside sales experience.

    Cons

Selling to grocery stores was a horrible. No actual selling was involved- the people you attempted To "sell" to weren't about increasing profits of their store.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't turn and burn your employees. Value the hard working employees more.

I have been working at E. & J. Gallo full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Gallo creates great brands and executes on all levels which has made it a super power in the wine world. Sales training has great reputation.

    Cons

Training is outdated and holding onto legacy position as industry leader. Many smart and talented people leave the organization. Technology and business practices were very outdated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The Gallo sales training and general business practices were not adapting or changing to fit the 21st century at the wholesaler level. Keep developing the brands that customers want but change the sales bible and give your reps the tools to succeed in an increasingly competitive industry.

    Pros

The company's wine has the best reputation for retailers. The people they hire are great and supportive.

    Cons

Solitary work - you never see most of your coworkers. Case goals were aggressively unrealistic.

    I worked at E. & J. Gallo full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Friendly management.
    Fun meetings / tastings
Opportunities for bonuses and prizes by hitting individual goals

    Cons

Separate from the distributors you'll actually be working for.
    Unorganized
    Little to no direction
Heavy lifting and long hours and weekends. Very poor work life balance.
Working all holidays (except Christmas Day and Thanksgiving day)
    Unreasonable quotas for certain brands.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This job is better suited for individuals with little experience and grocery background. There is such a high turnover rate because reps are basically glorified grocery stock boys and none of us went to college for that.

    Pros

Growing company with lots of opportunity to make a difference. Employees definitely do what it takes to get the job done.

    Cons

Senior Leadership does not 'walk the walk' as far as company values. Inbred culture makes it tough for an outsider.
