Former Employee – worked at EFI full-time
Pros – I am well paid for my position, have a career that is bot challenging and rewarding. Good benefits. Company puts your family first on many issues.
Cons – Sometimes goals and priorities change a little too quickly. More would get done if people were allowed to finish one project before starting another. And of course outsourcing.
Advice to Senior Management – Please remember that while soft costs do not fit into a spreadsheet, there are some softcosts associated with outsourcing that may exceed the benefit.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at EFI full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Great people, nice perks, pay is good, food is good, very relaxed working atmosphere.
Cons – Print servers are dying. Who prints? Nobody. This company will keep chugging along bouncing up and down, and if you like that, then it's perfect.
Advice to Senior Management – QA engineers are ignorant of TRUE qa practices. Development engineers are almost totally isolated. The division between QA and Dev is blurred more and more these days. You should teach the QA engineers to code their tests. You should teach the development engineers to expose the code to other parties.

Former Employee – worked at EFI
Pros – The salary and benefits package were fair. The people that I worked with were great. Flexible hours and a casual company culture.
Cons – EFI has acquired too many companies and has done a poor job of integrating them into a whole, especially in the APPs division. Moving development and QA efforts to more junior level staff in India may reduce cost, but it has to hurt the products, at least in the near term. Not many plans or opportunities for professional growth.
Advice to Senior Management – I'm not sure what EFI's vision is/was. Make a plan and stick with it. Long term priorities should not be changed just to make one sale.

Current Employee – been working at EFI
Pros – EFI has a very nice campus with a view of the bay. The senior management seem competent and fairly approachable. They honestly don't like to have layoffs (though there have been) and they look for other ways to trim costs first. Most of the people are nice and intelligent. Compensation isn't bad. Many employees have been here for years and that says something good about EFI.
Cons – Some managers and directors are next to worthless. It's an OEM driven business which means that there is always tension between what the OEM wants (customization) and efforts to standardize. Not a very "green" place to work as lots of paper is wasted needlessly.
Advice to Senior Management – It probably will sound very hippy-dippy, but the worker-bees in my department should be allowed to find and hire our manager and director. We would be much more effective, innovative, dynamic, and contented if we were given the power to find and hire our own departmental leaders.

Current Employee – been working at EFI
Pros – People tend to stay at EFI for a very long time, really I think because of the people they are working with. It's a great team to be a part of. Management is also open to hearing your ideas, just as long as you are willing to step up to drive the solution.
People care about their work and take ownership. They are willing to come together as a team to deliver.
Cons – There is always a sense that we don't have budget. It doesn't matter what it is, it's assumed there's no money. This comes from the top. Even when the company was doing really well the purse strings were held very closely. I think that if we invested more in the right areas we would be able to build better solutions, instead of piecing things together with "what we have".
Advice to Senior Management – Take a step back and look at the big picture. Think strategically instead of focusing on near terms gains.

Current Employee – been working at EFI
Pros – Benefits, location, good people, very interesting projects. Pretty decent fitness center.
Cons – Stock plans not worth much. Low bonus. Global market for print server products is shrinking.
Advice to Senior Management – Get more in touch with what is really happening, rather than what we would like to be happening.

Former Employee – worked at EFI
Pros – A working technology that has a good customer base all over the world. Smart peers, and good facilities at work.
Cons – Room for growth is limited because the technology has somewhat saturated. New avenues to expand the company are being thought of a lot, but other than an acquisition recently there is nothing much to show as new stuff.
Advice to Senior Management – You have to stimulate and energize the engineers. Create more room for career growth in the company. Allow workers to transition between departments more easily so that there will be new areas to work in.
