I have been working at EMC full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits. Great ability to grow and develop your skills and knowledge.

    Cons

Pay raises are good in the first few years, but slow down considerably after 3. Sadly you'll find yourself getting paid less than others who you out perform daily because you're green and they been doing this a long time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They only really care about getting the job done.

I have been working at EMC

    Pros

Most of the time the work is interesting and challenging.
Some extremely good first line managers.

    Cons

Too many process-driven first line managers.
Can be difficult to get promoted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good process can never replace well motivated staff. Not even in a big corporation.

    I worked at EMC

    Pros

Was a great culture before current leader.

    Cons

Current leadership killed culture. Continuously shrinking business to achieve profit versus innovation to achieve both growth and profit.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Replace senior leadership with leader that is focused on innovation, growth & culture

I worked at EMC full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

My team was great to work with. Manager was open and approachable. Ability to set own schedule was pleasant.

    Cons

While training was big when I first started, after 3 years it totally dried up. Corporate would not pay to fly employees to the training centers on the east coast (where 90% of all classes are held). The hotel, per diem, and rental car weren't issues. Only the plane ticket was the issue. In my last year at EMC I did not receive any kind of corporate classroom training on anything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop running the corporate like an east coast business. That model is dead and buried. Start thinking like a California business where your employees are your most valuable resource and pay them like it. Nothing irks an employee more than seeing the business make record breaking profits and then to see none of that come back to you. Woohoo, we made $5 billion in pure profit last year! What's that, we're not even getting a 1% profit sharing? Oh but Tucci (the CEO) is getting a huge 8 digit bonus? Great... Thanks...

I have been working at EMC

    Pros

Great company to work for. Great benifits

    Cons

If you don't speak up and ask for a salary increase, you'll get the bare minimum.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't let valuable employees with 7+ years experience walk out the door because you don't pay them what they are owed.

    Pros

    - Well-run company
    - Consistent focus on sales, product
    - Well-respected: customers liked our products

    Cons

    - Too much reliance on people being present in the office
    - Not enough spending on marketing programs to grow the brand (I was in marketing)
    - Many layers of management - makes it hard to advance
    - Can be very political

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Invest more in marketing
    - Do more to provide career paths for employees

I have been working at EMC full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

SaaS and Flash storage are leading edge technology. Focus is in solutions instead of the legacy Hardware.

    Cons

Culture conflicts between legacy HW vs federated solution focus. Need to support cash cow (Legacy) while transitioning to next generation of IT storage. Currently the Legacy storage is neglected and the next generation lacks clear roadmap. Many operations are unstructured and do not work together. There needs to be a balance between autonomy and integrated solutions. Currently CTO emerging technology group, business units, and channel partners, and Solutions group roadmaps are in silos.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to get control of the Silos. Need to balance Emerging Technology with control of the on-going operations. Binge and purge resources are not the solution to right the ship. Some areas are fearless and some areas are afraid to move. Not good for a High Tech company.
