I have been working at EMC full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Unlimited technical training, fairly good product line.

    Cons

Good ol boy network in middle management ranks. Hard to get promoted unless you are in with this group. No profit sharing no matter how well the company does. To many "managers" that are supposed to be leaders. Too much focus on metrics and not enough focus on the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow employees to share in the success in the company.

I have been working at EMC full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent benefits! Salary is very good! EMC Employees are awesome and have made it worth working here. tight knit groups. Have built a lot of great relationships. Technololgy/products excellent. If you have a lot of IT experience- you have much many more opportunities in areas

    Cons

In my position- NO training. 100% OTJ. Learned from 'mistakes', instead of pro-active/proper training. Poor communication between my teams. Expect to work OT & lots of it. You get used to it and get very good OT/shift differential if hourly. Very stressful environment. Must be on your game 100% of time. Your job can 'go away' or be 'relocated' at the drop of a hat.. like mine. Even if you are top performer. You never know what is going to happen. If you want to get anywhere, Internal references are very important.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate to your employees! Treat them with respect--especially after you tell them they have no job in 3 months. Show you actually care and assist more in finding new positions.

I worked at EMC full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great training, competitive salary. Initially started out in tech support ample opportunity for growth. Culture that use to value results, now changing for the worse.

    Cons

Required work on Saturdays. Management laying off senior personnel, poor leadership. Aggressive release schedule without concern for work/life balance. Senior management continually make poor decisions and don't suffer repercussions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand that the best people will not put up with the continued cycle of layoffs and then asking remaining people to pick up the slack all so senior management makes it quarterly goals.

I have been working at EMC full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

IIG division: Big company, very nice talented people. Highly skilled professionals in technical roles.

    Cons

IIG division: lack of clear vision and direction. Lame upper management. Lots of good engineers leaving these past years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make a decision, good or bad, and stick with it for longer than 2 years and a single release.
If it's a good decision, you win.
If it's a bad one, execute it so it becomes good.

I have been working at EMC full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Flexible work hours, workwise, and decent benefits

    Cons

Expected to work 10-12 hour days, forget about ever getting a decent raise (even if your merit rating is 'consistently exceeds')

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are not willing to fairly compensate your employees, quit having the pep rally quarterlies. Really sick of hearing how well EMC is doing, but yet most employees are lucky to get even a pitiful raise.
