    Pros

Some really smart people and challenging problems to work on. They have some really great technology pieces that if used correctly could be successful.

    Cons

Sr. Management is weak. Business module for optical components is fundamentally flawed. Too much work to do and not enough people to do it.

    Advice to Management

Shed some management and invest in more quality engineers.

    Pros

All functional areas are located under one roof. It is very easy to run through the approval process. Innovative culture.

    Cons

No long term planning results in higher than average number of layoffs. Management that clings to old ideas at any cost.

    Advice to Management

    Bring in some new management.

    Pros

Salaries are decent and I enjoyed my colleagues

    Cons

I went through multiple layoffs and furloughs causing increased dissatisfaction among those left as there is too much to do and too few people to keep up. They are stuck in the past with outdated thinking, only participating in tradeshows while sales is floundering without current sales tools, sales assistants or strong marketing teams.

    Advice to Management

Conduct 360 degree annual reviews so that management is reviewed by subordinates and do exit interviews even with people you've had to lay off so you learn what's really going on. Invest in your sales teams with sales assistants, current sales tools, full marketing teams to tackle all pieces of inbound and outbound marketing, and product development teams that can support needed evolution.

    Pros

co workers are friendly, there is no work-life balance, your life is taken over by Emcore. The benefits are decent, nice PTO and paid holiday structure. HR dept tries to maintain a good morale, but most departments are short handed and no one has time to participate

    Cons

upper management cut labor by 50%, running their employees into the ground. we are treated like machines, and pushed to the breaking point. They expect perfection at all times and will send you walking for slightest mistake

    Advice to Management

re-invent your company values. Hire more employees to take some of the load off of the overworked ones that you now have... you boast that Emcore is the best place to work and it indeed used to be, but it no longer is. open your eyes to see that most of your valuable employees that you have left are looking for a way out

    Pros

Quality engineering , some departments have very advance skills and product portfolio.
There are some good quality people but not when it get to Sr. management and C level management.
Company has a great potential if they would made the right decision ( focus , cut overhead , invest ,etc)

    Cons

lack of investment , lack of resources, no clear vision and focus, struggling to manage cash flow.
work load is not balance in some areas.

    Advice to Management

Talk less do more! Stop promising things that you can't deliver.

I would not recommend to apply to work with this company , at least not the Fiber Optics div.

    Pros

    Still dealing with advanced tech.
    Some good employees left.
Nothing else , good ideas ...but still only ideas.
    Good HR team

    Cons

Still in the 80s from managment style and tools.
Not orgenized ....huge overhead and bad manag.
Bad communication and lack of resources.

    Advice to Management

Come and visit more often. Call some of the common employees to tell you what they think.
You must solve those issues and revive the company .....remote control doesn’t work. for such a bad shape company ,you need to have team that doesnt afraid to do the hard work.

Unfortunately you don’t have such a team.....Luckily you still have some good employee left ....but they are all rusted and need to be revived.

    Pros

If you're a slacker, you're safe: Slow to get rid of dead weight.
You can work 9 to 5 here.

    Cons

    Poorly focused management team
Little employee empowerment, everything needs approvals.
Stifling bureaucracy - You need to fill out a form or a ticket for even menial tasks.
Cash strapped organization - stingy to no raises
Antiquated IT (still using Win XP32) - Snails pace of implementation of new technology.
Road blocks instead of solutions offered as default response to change requests.

    Advice to Management

Focus on making decisions faster, focus on reducing the stifling overhead and time consuming bureaucracy, consider streamlining the operations by reducing administrative busy work, hold people accountable, don't allow for so much finger pointing when things don't get done. Fire foot draggers and poor performers (at all levels). Focus on results, not just talk.

    Pros

I knew quite a few incredibly intelligent, experienced, incredibly hard-working folks while I was there.

Very good experience with high-tech product.

    Cons

Twice in poor economic times paycuts were instituted for 3+ months. Only one of those times was any effort made to re-pay the employees for what basically amounted to a loan.

We always seemed incredibly understaffed BEFORE the most recent layoffs.

Management violates many of the common-sense rules of economics, like not upcharging for more advanced forms of technology, not reinvesting any money back into the company in the form of internal R&D and by not generally treating its employees with a high level of respect.

    Advice to Management

Try focusing on your people and profit and long-term health of the company. You focus too much on revenue, which is foolish. Raise the prices of your products until you lose a bid or two so that you better understand the market space.
