I worked at Earth Fare full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The only pro for me was the pay and the employee discounts.

    Cons

All of the cons cannot be discussed as well as they should here.
    Unprofessional management
Unfair dealings and favoritism with employees
People have been fired and management has discussed it with non management employees
People have been fired without a lick of documentation in their file
HR Is a joke and a complete waste of time. They did more damage in my store than good.
Management is disrespectful to employees and it starts at the corporate level
Bad employees are kept even when they have plenty of documentation to let them go.
Promises are made during interviews and are never followed through with.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your company as if it were a legitimate business, love it and treat it well. Have pride in your work and your employees. Deal with all employees in a fair manner.
Upper management-specifically directors of operations etc-Be the Example. Quit cursing at employees and on the sales floor. Quit having shows of anger in front of employees and on the sales floor. Quit gossiping and start documenting. Go to college or find a psychiatrist and learn how to deal with people. Your main jobs are to manage people-the most important resources are the human ones.

    Pros

20% off in store items is a bonus. Always trying to grow and promote withing the company.

    Cons

With that 20% off im still not paid enough to shop here. Promotion within? Oh sorry that doesnt come with a raise. Unless your a cute bubbly 20 something with a good behind they probably wont notice you. And IF they do, you're a question nothing bubbleb head that will agree with whatever they say. This company started off great and has slowly become a cooperation joke. Trying to get as much as they can with out having to do to much. Everyone is short staffed but told they dont have extra hours. On going never taken care of sexual harassment? Ive lost count of how many timebive had comment made and butt touches ive gotten with no consequences.Dont waste your time here, the management in store, regional, and home office is a waste of space.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Low pay for employees. Cheap product. High prices, but not quality to match. Plays favorites. A lot of dirt going on behind the scenes physically and metaphorically.

    I worked at Earth Fare

    Pros

Learn more about healthy eating. Meet cool people.

    Cons

People are hired because they are favorites not because they are most qualified for the position. As a result most management is incompetent or lazy. Hiring/Promotions are very buddy, buddy, who you know. They focus on profits so much that they cut corners with labor (understaffing) of course paying $8.00 barely above minimum wage. Management is paid very low also. Low 30's and some less than that. They cut corners on the hot bar with old food that is not healthy to beef up profits. They say they are "be good do good" but they are the opposite. Bug infestations due to uncleanliness. The health inspector was disgusted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Read the above message. Be fair and don't pick favorites. Favorites will make your store or any endeavors fail. Stop being so cheap with labor/salary.

The Worst Company I have Ever Worked For

I worked at Earth Fare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Decent benefits for the select few who are granted full-time status. I met a few good people there, but most of them were low on the totem pole.

    Cons

I was in management with Earth Fare for a couple of years, moving from department manager to assistant store manager in a couple of different stores. Never before have I seen a corporate office less compassionate or interested in the well being of the employees beneath them. No matter how good one of my staff was, I was only permitted to give them a maximum 3 percent yearly raise. Seeing how the company starts off at rock bottom pay as low as minimum wage, someone making 7.50 an hour would have to bust their butts for 3 years just to reach 8.18 an hour. The company also insisted that I hire only part time workers so they did not have to offer any benefits to them. I was supposed to max them out on hours for a few weeks at a time without having too many in a row so to avoid legal prosecution.

The company also does not practice what it preaches. They have a bogus "declaration" on their walls stating all of their values, none of which are upheld in any manner. BEWARE OF ANY COMPANY THAT HAS A CREED. IF THEY'RE HAMMERING A MESSAGE INTO YOUR HEAD IT IS ALWAYS A BIG, FAT LIE. A COMPANY THAT CARES SHOWS IT, THEY DON'T HAVE TO DECLARE IT.

The say they make fresh, natural food. It comes frozen in bags to the food service department. They say their produce is clean and natural, and yet the organic produce and conventional they sell are stacked side by side, exposing the organics to contamination. They boast that they feed turkey to starving families on Thanksgiving, but it is the customers who fund this through donations. the have recycling bins in the front lobby, but none out back, just one compactor- it all goes in the trash, it's just a big, fat eco-lie. This is just a glimpse of their foul trickery.

I have seen cruelty and sexual harassment go unpunished. I have seen bullying customers berate and abuse the staff and watched in horror as management refused to stand up for their employees because they wanted to get all the dollars they could now that Whole Foods had come to town and was crushing them in every way. I have watched snooty regional nitwits march through the isles and criticize the hard work of their staff after giving them absolutely nothing to work with. I have suffered their unreasonable shrink goals after their enormous holiday plus-outs that went belly up. I have endured the rage of customers who arrived for sale items the home office ran out of stock on. I have watched them price times at up to 70% retail mark-up.

Once I entered store management, I was salaried, and was shocked to be told that I had to work a minima of 50 hours a week, regardless of wether or not it was really called for. The store could b running smooth and all my work could be done, but still I had to stay there and just "observe". Not that I ever had to report the observations. It was just pointless slavery that kept me away from my family. Worst of all, the company abandoned me when I fell seriously ill and requested time off.

If you are considering employment with these greedy maggots, I would like to advise you to repeatedly punch yourself in the head to try and smack some sense into your skull. Life is too short to suffer at the hands of rich frauds and blathering ninnies. You'll never get ahead. You'll never be paid what you're worth. You'll never be cared about or stood up for in tough times. Retail is already a slow death. It rots your self-worth and leads you to drink away your hopelessness. Stay out of it if you can, but go anywhere before you go to the misery machine that is Earth Fare, Inc. It's nothing but a Walmart dressed up in a tie-dye t-shirt, a fake farmer's market for the rich and the gullible, a machine oiled by your blood, sweat and tears.

I have been working at Earth Fare

    Pros

Coworkers are great we work together through all the crap management will put you through.

    Cons

Where do I even began? Management is terrible. Verbally abusive. HR doesn't do anything about it they don't care. Manager will wait and post schedule on Sunday and will schedule you to work days you can't and expect you to find someone to cover. Cutting hours so drastically everyone is expected to do the job of three people alone. Having to work your breaks due to short staffing. Not having anything in stock and customers end up getting really upset. Fresh food.... Hmmm food coming from a bag more like it. Earth fare is going down hill fast. Not only is the store 40% higher than other retailers in the business the pay is horrible. Who can live off of 9 dollars an hr? No praise for working above and beyond. Go anywhere else the turnover is crazy. I will not be surprised if this company tanks. I give them another 5 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start over. Pay your employees a living wage and staff enough people and business will increase. Start caring about the people who work with the customers who make the money for the store.

I worked at Earth Fare full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

As everyone says, you get a discount on mostly overpriced food (especially in the deli and hot bar). I met some amazing people at earth fare.

    Cons

    Where to start?
Since the buy out in 2012, this company has lost its way - less quality food esp. in the hot bar and deli, so many coupons and promotions the cashiers have no chance, corporate office desperately out of touch with store operations, very low pay with sad 3% max raises annually and loss of yearly bonuses.
    But wait, there's more!
Intense focus on comp sales and numbers game yet depts have less labor hours and provide very little training to new employees. Store management is constantly scrambling to help out understaffed depts and if there is a coupon happening (often in the meat dept), they will ask literally anyone to work the counter, including dishwashers, cashiers, etc. You must staff properly to deliver excellent customer service!
    Finally...
Every month there is another corny marketing plan with t-shirts and banners and 6 months later they will have completely abandoned the program. They are throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what will stick - the answer is generally nothing.

This could go on and on, but hopefully you get the idea.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Honestly, I believe it is too late. Former CEO stood for principles of healthy food with clean ingredients - new team is numbers crazy with little regard for low level employees and their lives. Increase pay, improve benefits package, staff all depts properly, train employees to better serve customers, get home office in the stores to see what it's really like. Again, this could go on and on.

    Pros

Discount and decent benefit package for full time

    Cons

They are not truthful with applicants. The hiring process and interviews make you believe that you will be a part of something great. Once you are in you will realize that you are just part of a very unorganized group of leaders (corporate and store level) that truly dont care about the mission statement. Rather, slashing hours and overworking employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be truthful with applicants so they know what they are getting into--just a prettier big box grocery store.

I worked at Earth Fare full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The other folks you'll work with at the stores are mighty fine. 20% has it's advantages and meeting new customers via heavy doese of interaction are swell.

    Cons

Terrible management, empty lip service of their corporate mission blather and the upkeep of equipment and general cleanliness of the stores behind the curtain is abysmal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I'll cite just one example of bad management. Today, I resigned from a Dept. Mgr. position at the EarthFare that is slated to open on July 16th in Greenwood, IN where I was relocating my family. Last week they held a local job fair in south Indy and although HR had allegedly screened the viable candidates, NO ONE showed up for their scheduled interviews for my department where I was seeking 3 hires. After the first day of the No-shows, I was asked by the Store Manager to leave the Job Fair and trawl the local competition Grocery Stores for potential candidates who were working behind the counters and lure them to come apply at the nearly fictional Job Fair. It was an embarrassing, insulting and bizarre request that yielded nothing but my further scorn for the company I was working for. I promptly followed up some applications at some local stores in Cleveland where I live and. as of yesterday, have successfully landed a gig at the premier Grocery chain, (Heinens) in the area. The end.
