I have been working at Earth Fare part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Work with great ppl who work with schedule. 20% off everything except alcohol. 50% off hot/salad bar. Get to wear most anything you want. Great healthy options.

    Cons

No military and wisdom discount everyday. Has hurt store. Some ppl in other departments don't need to be there. Our store doesn't have a hot bar. Just a salad bar.

    Advice to Management

Bring back discounts and hot bar.

    Pros

Friendly associates Lots of free merch. 20% discount on all product

    Cons

Refused to allow me to study up on our merchandise. I had to "look like I was busy" at all times, aka walk around the department cleaning shelves for 4 hours. Ridiculous that I could not read up on all of the product I was supposed to be selling. EXTREMELY rude upper management.

    Advice to Management

Treat your associates like people. Its not their fault your stores are failing.

    Pros

The benefits were fantastic, that is one of the three stars. Sometimes you get a really good team that works well together. Great food philosophy and potentially good atmosphere. Currently weeding out managers who do not do their jobs.

    Cons

Pays below industry standard, constant corporate pressure and changes, the people in HO are dropping like flies, rewards those who are favored not those who are competent, COMMUNICATION IS TERRIBLE, inconsistent in changes

    Pros

Great company, discounts 20% off of everything (except alcohol), decent pay

    Cons

No too many cons...however with it being a smaller store chain, they do cut back on hours and the first people this affect are the front end.

    Pros

The environment at my Earth Fare (though others may differ) was very laid-back and casual. Tasteful tattoos and most piercings may be visible, most people dress very informally, and it was easy to make friends upon my arrival.

    Cons

The cons are far more numerous however. Most of the time, the store was in complete disarray and management hardly ever knew what was going on. They take years to promote you and will promote someone else under your feet, despite your seniority, if that other person is more appealing to them. There is no drug testing upon your hiring, so most employees were admitted drug users who were 'glad there weren't any tests, because everyone would probably lose their jobs'. One person even told me he had done cocaine the night before like it wasn't a big deal at all. That being said, oblivious management doesn't care and that is why the store so easily gets run into the ground. Top that with the high-end snooty customers, and you have yourself a miserable workplace. The customer is always right....

    Advice to Management

Promote people when you say you will, don't leave them hanging for x amount of time. Also, management should play a bigger role in the store and talk to hourly employees more; answering emails and reading the paper is great, but actually fostering a relationship with your workers would be golden.

Good starting pay. Employees very nice and helpful.

    Cons

    Pros

Most of my team members are great people who are active in the community, passionate and well educated on health and nutrition and are glad to share their knowledge and experience. The company offers a 20% discount for team members and paid vacation and sick days after one year employment. Company also offers a descent match on 401k contributions and health care is available although pricey for partners of team members.

    Cons

Pay is well below national averages especially for department managers and much is expected. Communication between stores and home office is frustrating. Promotions are often poorly planned and warehouses are often out of stock on promotion products. During the past three years that I have worked there, my productions and profits have increased while my pay has only seen a 3% increase. Bonuses have not been given since 2011 even when departments have exceeded expected numbers. The company did nothing for its team members for the holidays. The company does very little if anything to show its appreciation for its employees.

    Advice to Management

Realize that the success of this company will be due mostly to its employees. Reward the stores that are consistently doing well rather than putting all of your energies into opening new store. Bring back the bonuses and incentives and give the individual stores more control over the products offered. What may be popular in Indiana may not be so in NC. and please do not underestimate the intelligence of the people who shop at Earth Fare. Most of them shop there because they want health options and affordability. Also, please do away with the lateral promotion. That is just another way of giving someone more responsibly without fair compensation.
