    Triage Group

    I worked at EarthLink

    Pros

Paycheck always in bank on time, benefits, PTO.

    Cons

Worst job ever had, overworked, understaffed. Lost site of repairing customers. All about 15 minute troubleshoot and move onto next ticket while everyone in company must be tied to a ready phone and also open new tickets for customers calling in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leave opening trouble tickets to customer service and have triage only troubleshoot and resolve issues. Fill shifts to what is needed not what you think can be done minimally.

    Pros

Good Comp Plan. that is all I can really say.

    Cons

Company has no idea what's going on across the Country. DSL is there money maker in 2014. Favorable company if you are in the south or rural areas where the big Telecom players are not in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You will soon be let go.... as I saw that happen 3 times in 5 months.....

I have been working at EarthLink full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Gain experience selling into the channel and a paycheck and the people I work with.

    Cons

A Revolving door of people in different positions. Management does not always understand the sales cycle and the times it takes to sell certain solution sets and revert back to a telecom mentality as far as time frames go. Little or no communication as far as additions or removals of certain products to catalog. Little or no advertising or brand marketing AT All which makes it tough to gain name recognition or brand recognition. New CEO Seems to be readying company to sell..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not much to say here because the management probably wont be here in another 6 months.

I worked at EarthLink full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Plenty of challenges and opportunity to do new things. Some of the management is good but everyone is stretched too thin. Most of the folks working there are nice, although everyone is stressed out.

    Cons

Burnout. Processes are terrible and customer satisfaction is extremely low. A company where you need to watch your back. They have been thinning the ranks and performing mass layoffs over the past 2 years during integration, loosing essential people and knowledge without forethought or backup plan. Company seems to be headed towards bankruptcy and Senior Management is grasping at straws to stay afloat.

I have been working at EarthLink full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The people, some of the best co-workers and office culture I ever experienced.

    Cons

The company has no direction, way too many systems to get an installation done in a reasonable amount of time. You can be the best salesperson in the world it won't matter because their is a ton of bureaucracy and finger pointing along with "not my job 15 years ago and not my job now". Customers are put last instead of first.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wake up! You cannot build a sucessful business when 70% of the company doesn't give a crap. Hold all departments accountable not just sales.

    I worked at EarthLink

    Pros

    1. Nice break room.
    2. Great staff (non-management)

    Cons

    1. Behind the times technology
    2. Mediocre tools
    3. Numbers driven not customer driven helpdesk.
    4. Outsource center for hundreds of companies, constantly switching hats.
    5. Instead of improving tools and necessities, they built a break room.
    6. Terrible management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care for your employees and back them up when you know a client is abusing the technicians.

I have been working at EarthLink

    Pros

Sometimes they'll tell you in person when you get laid off. Most of the time, though , it's by phone.

    Cons

It's so bad, HR reps have a hard time keeping up with ethical complaints. Our previous CEO drive the company into the ground, paving the way for quarterly mass layoffs so we could give him a 3.5 million dollar retirement. The head count slashing continues while emails are sent out detailing a posh new headquarters. There is zero communication within the company between the tiers. Departments flat out lie to each other. It is CYA based, not customer focused. And the culture is one of fear, not team work. Horrible experience.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

COMMUNICATE OPENLY. Let your employees know they are valued. You'd be shocked at how far a small attaboy goes.

    Pros

The working environment was very relaxed and accepting. There was no discrimination of any kind in hiring.

    Cons

Everything ended up getting outsourced and salaries were below industry average. Also, some of the systems for managing customers/payment were antiquated.
