    Pros

Good mission and wonderful clients. Lower level staff are all well meaning and the clientele is wonderful. Lots of learning opportunities too!

    Cons

Terrible, heartless management that left many families in the lurch and took advantage of staff. Low pay and limited opportunities for career development without further study.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You need to value and reward your lower level staff: there wouldn't be a company without them!

I have been working at Easter Seals part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I like to work with numbers. I am using my accounting and math skills. I am a independant worker and at the same time work as a team, also. I have some flexibility about hours.

    Cons

If employees are not sending the time-sheet at the right time or not clear about their working hours and dates. Make sure document correctly for overpayment or underpayment or any changes we made.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Educate employees to send the timesheet clearly and accurately.

I have been working at Easter Seals full-time

    Pros

Specific individuals who actually care about their work, helping families, and improving people's lives...however these pros have nothing to do with the actual company, rather specific exemplary human beings who will likely continue their work elsewhere.

    Cons

No raises, removing benefits one by one from employees, taking away time "allowed" to work on tasks, but expecting the same quality of work from employees, valuing $$$ above everything else, incompetent management that doesn't know its own policies, unprofessionalism abounds, treating employees as expendable bodies, unethical behavior when dealing with employees and clients, dishonesty, complete disconnect between roles, HR, poor scheduling...and on and on and on. It's amazing this company is still operating in its current state.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider NOT taking away benefits from your employees--maybe more people would stick around, and maybe less families would be dissatisfied with the poor quality of services...if you wish to be a provider of ABA services, try following basic behavior analytic principles and the Ethical Guidelines in practice. The families this company claims to serve deserve better.

    Pros

Easter Seals has great intentions and really try to look out for each client and their services. As an employee, you are able to reach out and connect to great special needs adults. Flexible hours.

    Cons

Lack of supervision. Disorganized. Unable to receive extra money working over-time since pay roll department could not support it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help employees retain their job and grow in their position by increasing supervision and support.

    Pros

Great staff! You learn a lot and gain lots of experience working with patients with Mental, developmental, and behavioral disabilities!

    Cons

You really can't work your way up. If you work in a group home and want to work up to be a manager, its tough. They would prefer to bring in someone new, than move up their staff. A lot of decisions are made in management concerning the homes, but its obvious that they don't ask staff their opinion before they make decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It'll be good to talk to the people to spend time the most with the patients/consumers before making drastic decisions. Its obvious that those in management make decisions without knowing what really goes on in the houses and how it affects staff. It'll be nice for management to ask staff their opinion on certain matters since they spend time with the patients/consumers daily.

I have been working at Easter Seals part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The job is simple and often stress free. Easily able to get more hours when desired or take off depending on the house and shift. Able to flex schedule, good for school. For the most part you have free reign during your shift. Likes to do gatherings for consumers and staff.

    Cons

You work alone mostly. Must work 8 holidays a year. Pay is not great and based on you level of education. Not easy to move up in the company. Management not very supportive. Co-workers can be catty. Most co-workers have no background in mental health and therefore do not understand the diagnosis or medications. Depending on the house, you may have to remain if relief doesn't come (due to emergencies or just lateness). If there is an emergency situation you may have to remain at work for paperwork. It is very very easy to get a med error (errors are on a point system of 3 to 5, 11 point equals termination, points are only removed after months of no errors). If a consumer or consumers family has an issue with staff (regardless of the reason) most often management will remove that staff from the house and send them to a different facility. During times of harsh weather (ie: snow storms), coworkers often call out. Consumers are often not appropriately admitted and management will play favorites with consumers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

site managers have to be more helpful and understanding, back up the staff they hired. Management needs to evaluate consumer better before admitting them and shouldn't play favorites.
