Beltsville, MD

Current Employee – been working at Eaton full-time for more than 7 years

ProsReputable company
Diversified portfolio
Ahead of the curve

ConsNot all facilities are tuned to corporate strategy.
Aquired sites not brought to speed until they fail
My site was never onboard with Eaton Culture, or One Eaton

Advice to Senior ManagementI worked at a facility which was purched from another company. Old management was retained because the site was very profitable, however, the site did not understand Eaton philosophy, and Eaton did not understand the site's prodcut lines. Over a period of 6 years, the site was beyone repair. Good people left, others were made to leave, HR did more damage by focusing on wrong aspects, the site went into a tail spin. Advice to management: Drop the sites which are not aligned with your portfolio and philosophy.

Current Employee – been working at Eaton full-time

ProsGreat pay and benefits
Stable company
Looks great on your resume

ConsWork life balance only exists for the week after another employee resigns
Employee satisfaction scores are low
Management aware of employee DIS-satisfaction for 3 years-no improvements made
Hierarchy management structure
Employee resignations are written off as employee's inability to manage workload vs. management's inability to support employee's needs

ProsPension is about it and you can call in sick as many days as you like, if you are that type of employee.

ConsHave employees that take 20-50 day's off per year for being sick, or so they claim.
Work with people that are not experienced or professional.
Upper Management in Raleigh is old boy's network and don't understand sales.
Some employees milk the system and take 3 hour lunches, are full of excuses, and their manager protects them.
There are certain Manager's there who don't like conflict and have no backbone when it comes to addressing under-performing employees.
Preach ethics, but employees sametime each other all kinds of thing's which are not ethical.
They fire good employees who do their job for unfair reasons and keep those that don't even work.

Former Employee – worked at Eaton

ProsIf you already got a job there well hang to it because this is hard to get a better one now and if your conditions are fair enough to stay why change.

ConsThe HR department hire staffing agency from Texas (because no other agencies want them as a customer in Sarasota/Bradenton) for as low as $8.28 per hour to fire them out 4 days during a work rush in front of everybody for no good reason because they state they have a problem with the agency and after contacting the agency they say that the employee does'nt work out there !

Advice to Senior ManagementGive a briefing to HR people on new corporative policies for agency workers or else kick these unprofessional HR senior and HR junior clerk who act like kids out for good.

ProsFor the right person that came from the right schools and/or the right connections, career opportunities are very good. As you move up the career ladder, the salaries and benefits get really good, after a certain level, it's TOO good.

ConsLong hours, piss-poor management planning, no real chance for career growth for the majority of the employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit trying so hard to make the company "look" great instead of actually making it great. Forget about all the fake company videos forcing employees to put on a big smile for the camera when in reality there's little to smile about. Deal with real issues facing the little guy and they'll bend over backwards to make the company great for everyone. And quit forcing all this bogus ethical training on the little guy, they're the only ethical people in the company, if you want ethical behavior, better start sending people to training from the top down.

Pune (India)

Former Employee – worked at Eaton as a contractor for more than a year

ProsPay is slightly higher than most in industry
Nice work life balance
"Bhaashan" about ethics and encouragement to innovation

ConsNone of their ethics related rules apply when the perceived culprit is an american and the victim happens to be indian

innovation according to eaton India is "field application engineering" where you put together bunch of existing eaton products. this combo forms a new "innovative product". no encouragement is given for fresh thinking. extremely stable company (read 'static')

all work has to be generated and driven from US. they dont need employees in India to be thinkers, they should only be good followers (i dont want to use the word "slaves")

Advice to Senior Managementgrow up, americans are not Gods

Former Employee – worked at Eaton full-time for less than a year

ProsOrganized system. Good Benefits. Ample opportunities to move around the different divisions of the company, be it within the same facility or others.

ConsAs mentioned, politics and power struggle at high levels, GM has no relevance and does not command a presence due to constant change of GMs and also politics of their higher management.

Advice to Senior ManagementGood Luck continuing looking in all the wrong places and ignoring existing problems. For employees that have been with the company for over 10 years and their position can be merely shifted like it doesn't matter proves and shows how you treat loyalty and effects how your employees should treat you in future!!

Pune (India)

Former Employee – worked at Eaton full-time for more than 7 years

ProsThe Eaton India Engineering Center is financially strong. Has a lot of employees.
Geographical location is at a good special economic zone.

ConsIncompetent and professionally impotent management. Will support growth of only incapable people – since capable and courageous people cannot be controlled by a incompetent and professionally impotent management. Are keen on capable, talented, knowledgeable and initiative taking employees to leave the company. Management wants to make the Eaton India Engineering Center a swamp than a growing and flowering filed. So – only people who can do this are encouraged. Do I need to say more?

Advice to Senior ManagementWake Up. Get better or get beaten and be thrown out. You cannot survive this way for long. You cannot keep on promoting a swamp – because a swamp only breeds disease carrying insects like mosquitoes.
