    Pros

Tuition assistance, opportunities to advance, good base salary

    Cons

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Education Management Corporation

    Pros

Coworkers were great, worked with a lot of great individuals there. Most were honest and hard-working.

    Cons

Leadership decisions are questionable, at best. Goals are not well thought-out or communicated.

I worked at Education Management Corporation as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

EDMC provided a great experience as a student in college. I was able to work as an employee of EDMC for a federal work study program while serving the needs of a local non-profit organization. Great way for me to gain experience while working through school.

    Cons

The only con that I had while working for EDMC was the system used to upload timesheets. It ran on an old version of JAVA which would take upwards of 30 minutes to access and then my internet browser would block it for security purposes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Update the system used to collect employee hours for the payperiod.

    Pros

This is a Fast pace work environment

    Cons

Management should try a democratic/collaborative leadership style when managing admissions team and team would feel valued and appreciated, as a result productivity would increase.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider promoting a diverse management team in the Admissions Department.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Good company to work for. At market for hiring salaries. 2nd largest proprietary school company.

    Cons

Going through a lot of changes due to current political climate. Lots of turnover of senior and middle management so a lot of the business intellegence has left. Providing education to middle-tier demographics is somehow not as noble as it once was even though the for-profit education sector is the only way many people will ever be able to get a degree.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Well... First, tell people what's going on without the fluff or nonsense. Second, provide a realistic roadmap of how the company will get to the place it needs to be. Third, provide some stability so employees are thinking about next year in a positive way, not a "better get my resume together" way.

I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Since Ed West has taken over as President, things and culture have begun to improve. There is more transparency, longer-term vision and more realistic targets. The company is a market leader, has good degree offerings, and is lean

    Cons

Trying to shed the short-term and 'churn and burn' legacy of old management, and stigma of 'for profit'.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work of more transparency, listening to and trusting your employees, and setting realistic goals. Also, please work on retaining your employees.
