    The training is pretty in-depth and there are lots of good people that work there.

    Pros

    The best thing about working for EDMC is the opportunity to impact your local community through the education of adults. It is extremely personally rewarding.

    Cons

    There is little respect or appreciation for the hard work completed by the employees. This for-profit organization is all about the profit. Only the on ground employees care about the students.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Please adjust your open enrollment policy so that students can succeed. A reading and writing level requirements along with basic math skills should be required before under taking college debt

    Pros

    good pay
    catering
    co workers weren't all bad
    working with the occasional student that wanted to go to school

    Cons

    struggling for leads
    policies changing constantly
    micro-management
    favoritism towards certain people
    burn out is very common, higher turnover if you can even make it through their month long + training with out being let go
    very difficult to get promotions if ever

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    you have a lot of good people there, people have ups and downs, instead of rewarding only the people who produce, allow all leads to go to all people this will allow for a more even playing field. recent changes to the company have been good. however, many aren't happy with having the same conversations day in and out people burn out eventually from the stress to preform.

    The pay is very competitive and work hours are nice. There was room for advancement and more pay.

    Cons

    The job was very stressful and you had to worry about your job every few weeks as an Admissions Representative. It is a very cut-throat environment to work in.

    I worked at Education Management Corporation full-time

    Pros

    Great school as far as the variety of curriculum, staff, and instructors. Upper Management, including Goldman Sachs have put a price on the head of every student. By the way, It's illegal to put a price on a students head when you receive Title IV (financial aid) from the Department of Education.

    Cons

    EDMC, which is made up of The Art Institutes, Goldman Brown Mackie, South University, and Argosy University, is presently being sued by the Department of Justice for $11 Billion Dollars for misleading admissions practices related to Title IV Funding, mainly Pell Grant funds. (See legal section area EDMC in Wikipedia). Ever since Goldman Sachs, Providence Equity Partners and Leeds Equity Partners acquired EDMC and its 70 schools $3.4 billion in March 2006 - The downfall of EDMC was set into motion. Immediately, Goldman Sachs cleaned house and restructured the admissions department of every EDMC school. The number of Assistant Director of Admissions /Recruiters (ADA’s) grew by the hundreds. At the same time, the “interview” was set into place to pressure the student into applying. This new high-pressure admissions process lead to a revolving door of layoffs and firings in every EDMC admissions office. The average recruiter/ADA would be lucky to last 3 years. As soon as the recruiter/ADA catches on to the unethical behavior going on, they are given a bad review and booted out the door. Ask any EDMC school how much money they spend on admissions verses the needs of the students, you will be shocked! EDMC spends approximately $1000 for each application they take in. These predatory and high pressure recruiting practices are exactly why EDMC has come under fire by the Department of Justice. Would you allow your child to spend over $400 a credit hour to attend a college where they have to call their advisor who is half way across the country to work out their class’s schedule? If you do your homework, you will notice how EDMC is taking advantage of the poor job market by letting go of good, and higher paid employees, to repost virtually the same position for others to apply -for close to half the pay.     Pros

    Great people to work with and there are opportunities to move up here and there.

    Cons

    Management has unrealistic expectations for goals and they adjust goals as corporate sees fit. High pressure sales tactics. I would compare it to used car salesmen. You will work late nights (even later than the school is open if a sales person pitches a fit), weekends, and recently they changed Saturday hours to be 9-5 instead of the 9-1 it was originally. When people first start there, they are told they will work one Saturday a month....lies. There were times when I worked all Saturdays in a month...extra late nights...etc. I also feel that they use bait and switch tactics with the students. They cater to underprivileged students/families and high pressure sales pitch them into signing their financial aid plans...even if they cant afford it. Many students are simply not ready for all of this. Cut bonuses as well while the guys at the top are making millions (no joke). Got rid of sales training so it is all internal now as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Start investing in your employees. Bring back the training program. It will increase your success rate. Provide training for financial aid. They have so much to learn and are expected to just figure it out as they go. Create flex schedules (get with the times) for employees. The staff is large so why not have a 3 shift system? Get rid of the smaller mini mesters...they are not that successful and with most kids not being prepared for school, they are set up for failure with an intense 5 week program.

    Deep down, there are some people that are trying to do a good job and make a positive impact on students.

    Cons

    Marketing has been watered down by corporate and those at the campus level have no say.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take some time to think about your employees more. Managers at the campus level are mere puppets in corporate's plan to forget about values and solely focus on numbers.

    Pros

    management doesn't get into your classes and allows you a great deal of freedom to teach and design your classes…but you also don't get rewarded for working hard and well

    Cons

    for profit school and makes decisions based on profits and not on good student results

    Upper management should undergo a very in-depth training so that they can learn to handle situations professionally. Proper training would also provide more uniformity and once again STRUCTURE to the company!!

    Cons

    this company pays low salaries and has been in a continuous state of reorganization and outsourcing for three years or more. company sales have been flat or declining for over two years.
