I have been working at El Paso

    Pros

Location...Houston, and majors cities in the US, as well as district and area offices along the various pipeline locations. Good industry reputation with other companies. Professes to be good stewards of properties and good neighbors within the various communities. Excellent knowledge base in senior employees. Excellent industry to be at this time...natural gas for energy when the world is concerned about clean air and global climate change.

    Cons

Senior and upper management not visible enough to the rank and file. Exposure is prepared video clips and press releases. General fear by management of controversy from addressing groups. Layoffs and cutbacks in the name of efficiency every five six years. Unable to attract and groom the best prospects for performance and career training. Lack of encouragement to have employees show initiative.
High debt impacting cash flow and stock prices for a very viable and stable industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Institute better fiscal policies and controls. Relax minor impact policies and promote the initiative of employees at all levels. Do not cottle, but firmly and fairly evaluate all employees on a quarterly basis, and not on a annual basis. Those employees that do not and can not show initiative must be told of their limitations and that continued employment will depend on their visibility and initiative.

    I worked at El Paso

    Pros

Elpaso was a Good solid energy company. There are a lot of structure like a big company should. The are some opportunities to grow.

    Cons

Just like any big company, one can easily get lost in the politics. It is still a company trying to get out of the enron days

    No opinion of CEO

    I worked at El Paso

    Pros

Working for El Paso Energy was fun. I don't know much about the traders and brokers but working in I.T. was ok.

    Cons

Upward mobility is rather difficult since people stay jobs and don't move much. Training could be improved and more frequent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improving upward mobility and training would be fantastic. Also, dropping the stock options for actual pay exchange and more vacation time.
