    Pros

Amazing culture and colleagues. Challenging and demanding work but great compensation and benefits. Work hard, play hard is the norm in my group (gas marketing).

    Cons

Large communication gap between senior leadership and everyone below them. Intraoffice politics can be pretty extreme but can b a benefit if you are on the right side.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give employes the resources to excel and get out of the way.

I worked at El Paso full-time for more than a year

    Pros

competitive pay; great benefits; exceptional exposure to leadership; opportunity to grow; very big on learning and teaching through dedicated training programs or ad-hoc rotations (subject to managers, of course); great gym (not work related, but still a plus!); flexible working schedule; pretty good resources (as in access to consultants and third-party vendors)

    Cons

could be slow to move sometimes; needs fresh talent

Good Company but expect lots of employee measuring tactics in place

    I worked at El Paso

    Pros

    Good Compensation
    Good Benefits, fitness room.

    Cons

They go on and on about "how are we doing" such as personal goals, department goals, division goals and lots of what have you done for us lately? And since its about goals, at different times of the year, it is time to review "the scorecard" again, as individual, department, division, company and it's endless meetings to cover all of the above. You have to constantly have goals, make improvements to processes and sometimes at the end of the day the actual work suffers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since it's all about "streamliing", please streamline all the time-wasting in endless meetings about goals, competencies, scorecards and all that "jazz".

I have been working at El Paso

    Pros

    - Good benefits package and fair compensation
    - Latitude in what you're allowed to do
    - Many of the employees are top level talent
    - Great facilities

    Cons

    - Impossible to comprehend review process (PMP) that pretty much means you are always going to under-perform
    - No well defined career progression
    - Sometimes their is meeting overload (I suppose all large companies are like this)
    - Too much lower level management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show employees a clear career path and reward high performers

    Recommends

I have been working at El Paso

    Pros

Great management interaction with employees, constant access to senior management, continious responsibilities that match growth, great work life balance and hours.

    Cons

There is no clear path to view advancement opportunities within the company. Programs to expose employees to other areas are not well developed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Advise to senior management would be non existent since the company has been bought out by Kinder Morgan, to be completed 2012.

I have been working at El Paso

    Pros

I've been at EP for several years and it's a great place to work. Good work-life balance, pay and benefits.

    Cons

Kinder Morgan is purchasing the company and there's a lot of uncertainty about the direction KMI will take. KMI is known for its core value of "Cheap" and EP's core value is "Excellence".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to keep up the communication on the direction KMI is going to take. EP is a great company and I hope EP management can keep KMI from killing that culture of "Excellence"
