I worked at Electronic Data Systems

    Pros

I started this job right out of college and it is perfect for newbies as an introduction into the corporate world.

    Cons

The job came with on the job training as opposed to being sent off for training. Also, the salary is not very competitive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management was great and I don't have any real complaints. Communication was excellent and they let you know every step of the way how you were performing.

I worked at Electronic Data Systems

    Pros

It was a large company with many resources. If you needed answers to a particular issue, you had the reach of the entire organization to help. We had great customers in many different industries.

    Cons

The size of the company was also the biggest issues. It takes time to initiate change in such a large environment and most of the time decisions were not given enough time to permeate throughout the entire organizations. This resulted in major changes every 6 months or so it seemed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When making a decisions, stick to it for at least the medium term and not just the short term. Realize that EDS is (was) a large organization and internal results take time to really take root.

I have been working at Electronic Data Systems

    Pros

    - You are generally permitted to do what is necessary to get the job done - good deal of freedom - leaders trust you to be the expert they thought they hired
    - Your decisions are generally supported by management
    - Lots of good and interesting jobs

So far, I have had several excellent roles that I have enjoyed - more than at my previous employer

    Cons

    - Lots of uncertainty in continued employment due to acquisition - it is unsettling
    - More than one person has claimed my work as their work (coworkers) and didn't feel any shame in doing so - too bad for you is the attitude
    - Leaders are so busy they often don't have time to focus on important details until they have missed the window of opportunity to make an impact

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to point out where EDS brings value to the HP acquisition

I worked at Electronic Data Systems

    Pros

Management seemed to be competent. They had an involved review process and really worked with employees to provide new opportunities. Individual feedback was great.

    Cons

The long involved review process was sometimes tedious. There always seemed to be a push to move into the IT side of the business.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

EDS is a nice place to work. I enjoyed my time there.

Now is the time to listen, not just issue decisions

I have been working at Electronic Data Systems

    Pros

Being with HP opens up a world of opportunities, with new business sectors and job types available. HP's increased diversity with the addition of EDS makes HP a stronger contender against IBM and Dell.

    Cons

At the moment HP-EDS employees are working under a dark cloud due to the constant drumbeat of hints, statements, and rumors of layoffs. One never knows if next Monday will be another Black Monday. It's maddening to see EDS targeted as the focus of yet another round of layoffs, almost in the same breath with statements that EDS' strong performance helped HP offset poor results in its other business units.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please show a commitment to listening to the people, often touted as "our greatest asset." But right now it seems as though upper management is in its castle issuing dire edicts rather than listening. Now is the time to find out what the company's people are dealing with and the obstacles they're finding to better results.
