    Pros

Fairly average benefits package. There was an effort to catalog best practices across multiple (sometimes hundreds) of clients world wide.

    Cons

If you are IT management degreed you'll find a place to evolve potentially. If you have no management experience don't consider EDS as a place you'll get it. Terrible dissemination of information to employees for an 'information technology' company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People are your biggest expense but also your biggest asset. Treat them as an asset instead of as a cost/benefit and you will prosper

I worked at Electronic Data Systems

    Pros

Their salaries were very competitive and probably higher than other employers. They encouraged learning among employees (cross training).

    Cons

The fringe benefits were pathetic. You could get better health benefits on your own. The management was only concerned about making their manager's happy. Training was terrible and almost non-existant. The computer hardware they bought was old and compared to other contracts was sub-par.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Success is nurtured at the bottom. If your people on the front lines are not happy you end result will be discontent and anarchy. If you only expect your management to make their senior management happy, that will happen at the demise of the company.

I worked at Electronic Data Systems

    Pros

They do have some good opportunities to learning new technologies and skills. Requesting days off were very easily accommodated. Benefits were pretty standard.

    Cons

Very poor management and supervision. It reminds me of the cliques that were in high school. If you are not in the clique then you are outside. Personally witnessed several cases of favoritism and others claiming credit for work they did not perform. Supervision does not listen well to their employees in several cases I have witnessed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management and superivision needs to take a strong look at how they conduct themselves. They should not show favoritism and they should listen to their employees. They need to remove the cliques that are rampant.

    Pros

Working at EDS is better than Welfare.

    Cons

Layoffs every quarter (literally) In the past 7 years that I have worked for EDS ther have been 24 layoffs. If your called back you have to take a 35% paycut if you accept. US Jobs are moving to Argentina and India as fast as possible. EDS contines to cut services to their customers who are paying for services because they do not have the manpower due to constant layoffs. Health benefits continue to deteriorate. Where we used to have a copay now there is a $1000.00 deductable to satisfy before the company pays anything. Its hard to take pride in your work anymore. You have to just get it done, no time to double check anything because there is so much work to do, just get it done and move on to the next issue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would be interested to know what Senior Management thinks is the reason more and more customers are suing EDS. They need to start caring about the customer and not only the bottom line.

    Pros

Large company with opportunities around the globe. If you're willing to take chances and travel for work, there's no limit to what you can accomplish. There is a strong network of support teams who are always available for consultation. There is a solid pipeline of work as new business is sold at a fast pace. Unfortunately, no one feels very confident that the pipeline will last as senior leadership decisions will be felt down the road.

    Cons

Recently taken over by HP. Horrible senior leadership team who are each lining their pockets at the expense of the rank-and-file, and the long-term health of the company. Middle management appears to be frozen in fear as entire departments are eliminated. Extremely low morale throughout the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They aren't open to advice. They clearly have a plan to gut the company to improve the short-term financial outlook. They will all be long gone when the long-term impact of their decisions is felt by the company.

    Pros

Paycheck, love of the actual work, regardless of the management...

    Cons

People are now forced to do work below their worth and abilities due to all of the senseless layoffs and the need to back fill. The ever hanging black cloud of random senseless layoffs, especially for those of us that make more money than the new management being brought in. EDS appears to be content with mediocre vs "cream of the crop".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop laying people off based on information provided in a spread sheet. Seriously look at the needs and the resources needed to fulfill those and future needs. Be respectful of the clients and the investors and start putting some intelligence into workforce decisions.

I have been working at Electronic Data Systems

    Pros

    - Access to many very informative training programs
    - People are dedicated to their work
    - Coworkers can easily commiserate with how miserable you are in your job

    Cons

    - Most workforce in their 40's or older
    - Culture clash with HP, who recently bought EDS
    - Tools are manually intenseive and archaic
    - Focus is on processes and not results

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    - Treat employees with more respect and not as a commodity
    - Increase diversity of thought & opinion amoung decision-makers

I have been working at Electronic Data Systems

    Pros

    EDS has some redeeming qualities:
VERY good work/life balance. I typically barely work 40hrs/wk. And honestly most of the day is not very intesne.
Pretty generous vacation policy: I got 3 weeks off as a new hire. Even better if you can get on the GM account, tons of bonus vacation days.
Workplace is not very competitve, If one cares at all and is remotely intelligent you can probably advance in your career.

    Cons

    Wow where to begin....

Piss poor compensation. And going down. Within the past month a 5% cut, then another 10%. Plus Salary Freezes.
    Job cuts related to merger.
Management consistently disrespects and devalues the employees.

Would recommend this company to no one. Particularly new college graduates as the culture is very bad: everyone is 40-50 year old and boring.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide a decent work environment and show the employees some respect when it comes to compensation.

    Complete paralysis/incompetence of Senior leadership

I have been working at Electronic Data Systems

    Pros

EDS Pays well, and provides a terrific experience to learn an industry from top to bottom. Since there are significant gaps in competence, a strong performer can easily look like a star performer virtually overnight. The key is the ability to build upon that momentum and crystallize it around advancement, which is tougher to do.

    Cons

Executive leadership is nothing short of incompetent. Leaders are rewarded on their ability to manage expectations up the chain, and active politicking is rewarded. Challenging the status quo is frowned upon and looked as a threat to the establishment. Career employees have made a living out of managing the next group of executive leaders that come through the door. NO ONE is held to any objective measure of performance across the organization, from Senior VP down to individual contributors. Delay, deflect, and blame have become the mantra of a once proud company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Break the back of the senior leaders, and promote the talent that exists within the organization. There is skill and talent that wants to succeed. However, they are held out of the critical leadership positions, while the same leaders just recycle through different roles/titles.
