    Muttonhead Commerical waste of money!

Network Engineer (Current Employee) Las Vegas, NV

ProsIt's still a paycheck for now. It is getting better slowly due to attrition however more technical creative minds are needed to fill the vacancies. Hopefully CenturyTel will remove some of the (Analog) good old boys that have been here far to long getting network operation on the same page.

ConsTo many upper Managers are not Network Techology Master Minds, still in analog mode. Sales contracts have been lost due to the push for Nortel when the rest of the world is trained on Cisco. Were have all our Cisco Sales Engineers gone? More lay offs each quarter are coming. Union employees feel they are entitled no matter how bad the economic conditions are. ( Not my job! )

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease investigate the on going ethical issues with management and vendors dating / relationships. Extremely out of control in Nevada. Seems various married management employees are dating vendors and other internal employees. Strange that these employee's were able to keep their jobs during the first round of layoffs.

    Embarq squandered opportunity.

Group Manager (Current Employee) Overland Park, KS

ProsThe best reason to work for Embarq is living in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The people there are fair and decent. The company is populated with decent, honest people. Unfortunately, the world changed and left the company's leadership and culture ill-prepared to deal with a more competitive world. The internal culture is one of midwestern values where there is very little back-stabbing or ruthlessness.

ConsThe company is failing. There is a glut of mediocre talent at Director levels of management that rose in previous boom times. Most of them would not warrant those same positions today. The company is mired in its methods and thinking. It makes well-intentioned but unsuccessful efforts to refresh its thinking.

Advice to Senior ManagementSell. Which they've done.

Embarq is not a place to grow your career

Account Manager (Current Employee) Overland Park, KS

ProsThe career opportunities are very open within IT. Like any other company within corporate America, the spoils go to the one that shows and proves. Embarq is no different. If you are a person that can execute you will do well.

ConsThe leadership is the same leadership as Sprint, which means it is awful. Embarq is in the middle of being brought by Century Tel. Meaning Embarq will be downsizing substancially very soon, which is unfortunate. Employee morale is also at an all time low. People dont know if they will have a job tomorrow or not. It is a depressing place to work.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat everyone as a partner versus a sub-ordinate.

    Current climate

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsVery good team of employees, great people to work around. Very flexible environment, good benefit packages. Overall a good place to work at.

ConsSince the merger with CenturyTel things have not been communicated clearly, a lot of employees are visibly not satisfied and are looking for change

Advice to Senior ManagementSince the merger the mood in the company has changes towards the negative. Communication from senior leadership has not been trickling down as expected.
