I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The company's culture is rapidly improving. The work environment tends to be very dynamic depending on your position/department. Employees are rewarded for hard work through numerous different programs. Opportunities for additional training in areas of personal development are robust. The CEO, Dan Abdun-Nabi, seems to sincerely care about the employees that work for the company and it's not uncommon for him to schedule site visits to specifically meet with employees at all levels of the company.

    Cons

Pockets of people who are resistant to change. Workloads can be very demanding and if a person isn't organized and on-top of things it's easy to fall behind. Work/life balance can be tough based on your position (especially if you are salaried).

    Advice to Management

Keep moving forward with positive changes and efforts to the culture, we're finally starting to see the results of years of hard work. Continue to stay in touch with employees at all levels of the company and work to address their concerns.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Challenging opportunities requiring out of the box thinking and quick adaptation to changing requirements. Perfect environment to apply industry experience or gain government experience. Culture is trending to a more collaborative approach and application of lessons learned is leading to continual improvements.

    Cons

It could offer more flexibility with work from home policy and increase health benefits. Consider additional days off during Christmas period.

    Advice to Management

Continue the interactive approach to better understand and lead culture change across all sites. Continue dialogue on short and long term goals to provide clear guidance and priority on deliverables.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The company is focused on culture, professional development, and continuous improvement. The company offers flexible work schedules and paid time off for volunteering in building. Cafeteria, gym, and nice meeting rooms in new building. Lots of opportunity to work on many different projects.

    Cons

Archaic processes that are hard to change. We sign up for a lot of work and do not put together realistic timelines. Government is main customer and source of revenue - sales and contracts & grants.

    Advice to Management

Support middle management. Stay focused on culture. Celebrate our successes.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

A lot of opportunities for those who work hard, are positive and advocate positive change. It is a good company for people who want to make positive things happen. A lot of positive culture change in the last 5 years including decisions made at lower levels and a lot less difficulty in getting things done. Competitive pay and benefits. A lot of investment in new technology

    Cons

Still opportunities for additional positive culture change but headed in the right direction. Management has improved greatly but still a few managers that are not as good as they could be. Still some poltics

    Advice to Management

Continue with the postiive cutlure change and continue to push deicision making down

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Love the work, love the people. Collaborative, team environment

    Cons

Archaic processes, need to get on with the times and automate more. Work-life balance ridiculously crazy at times.

    Advice to Management

Senior management is great at communicating, but the middle management needs to be more transperant and not hold on to information. Information is power, but dont take that literally.

I have been working at Emergent BioSolutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Emergent has competitive pay, annual bonuses, and insurance coverage. They also have a robust Corporate Social Responsibility program, several annual employee events (summer picnic, golf outing, Winter party, etc), flexible work options, fitness reimbursement, and more! The actual work environment is undoubtedly challenging. But the environment brings out a great work ethic in employees. The best part of Emergent is without a doubt the employees! Development opportunities are readily available for those who pursue them and make an effort to better themselves and their career. There is a genuine push for continuing to improve culture and eliminate red tape. A great sense of pride among employees for the work done at Emergent. I have seen many examples of the company going out of their way to help employees with extenuating circumstances. They truly care about the well-being of employees!

    Cons

There are pockets of the organization where creating a good culture is not a priority. A poor public perception from the early 2000's seems to have scarred employees who have been here that long. Two or three poor managers have turned off many good employees. "One bad apple poisons a whole bunch." Complex and outdated procedures (though there has been GREAT improvement in this area!) Poor communication in various areas - though this too is improving!

    Advice to Management

Focus on middle management. It is clear to see who is on board with making our organization more positive, and who is not. Weed out the "bad apples" to keep the toxic attitude from spreading.

    Pros

on a postive change pathway and making great decisions such as bringing in new site head. Growing aggressively and pushing employees to contribute and grow. new focus on communication, leadership, and performance in Gburg since the new site head came two years ago.

    Cons

busy environment......people are expected to work hard and long if need be......too much complaining by employees drags down the culture at times

    Advice to Management

continue the push for more effective leadership and don't be afraid to deal with the naysayers swiftly and aggressively. Continue to expand product portfolio and ensure future of site and employees
