    Pros

Company was decent until Brookdale takeover was announced. It was at one time a great place to work.

    Cons

Middle management had no time to deal with their own pending layoff while trying to manage their teams during the transition. Agree with others that there was a very clickish environment which increased toward the end and black balling does occur. Brookdale mismanaged and botched the transition in many ways, but at the end of the day they are just people trying to survive a very big mess.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show respect to those who chose to move on, those who came from Emeritus and those who take a chance to join the mayhem.

Good place to start a career and gain some entry level experience, but learning and growth opportunities are limited

I worked at Emeritus Senior Living full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flex hours, laid back office environment, some cool perks like half days every other Friday during the summer, a few great individual leaders/mentors

    Cons

Accounting work was simplistic and not challenging at all, mostly consisting of babysitting and correcting the errors of untrained business office directors at the communities. No real learning opportunities or exposure to advanced accounting concepts, no audit exposure, etc. The experience here was limited and results in a lack of exit opportunities. Growth opportunities exist in terms of moving up within the department, but even that has a lack of variety and depth and is basically just managing people doing the same basic entry level work.

The accounting department also didn't do a good job of promoting. In my time there they moved at least two people into management who were great doers but terrible leaders, resulting in unhappy, mistreated staff. There were a few great people moved up also, but the percentage of misses was too high

Pay and benefits were both at the bottom of the Seattle market.

    Pros

Helping the elderly and making their last years fun! Letting their family know that when their family member is in your care they will be taken care of and loved. The residents are always a pro when working at an assisted living!

    Cons

I don't know if I'll have time to list every single thing. After working for the company a combined 5 years at 2 different facilities I would never go back. They hire anyone off the street to care for the residents meaning people with no experience and straight off the boat so with heavy accents that the residents get frustrated with. Heavy turnover rates in management, nursing, and care staff. As the company says they are an assisted living but would allow people that need 100% care who can not do anything for themselves to move in. The company is money hungry. I could go on and on.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people you would want to keep for awhile. Train care staff better and investigate "incident reports"! Compensate more after a 90 day period to keep people longer. Raise care staff wages! Make the residents your number one focus!

    Pros

Training was ok. Compant values fine. Residents great.

    Cons

Turnover. Salary and benefits not competitive. Lack of response from corporate management. Residence showing its age.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat people like human beings and not animals. Respond to requests. Investigate why there is so much turnover. Spend money to improve the residences instead of on stupid competitions for management staff.

    Pros

Can get away with about anything, as long as you care about the ppl and work hard

    Cons

No shift differential, equipment needed not provided, TERRIBLE PAY, no appreciation or encouragement from management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get it together. Your building sucks, your turnover rate sucks, your lack of care for people in general is disgusting. Management is ridiculous and run by clowns... I will never delve into this field bcuz it seems to take a complete lack of heart and a money grubbing habit.
