I worked at Emerson full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Friendly people and love to stab you in the back.

    Cons

Under staffed with low pay, management takes advantage of personnel, terrible management, my worst place to work in the past 30 years. I had to work an extra 5 to 10 hours without pay per week for 4 years to keep up. Then after I finished a major successful project they fired me for not showing up for work because I missed a few days that was out of my control. I even had a week of vacation to use. They did not need me anymore because I finished the project that they are selling 50 units per month and making tons of money on it. Very poor company if you ask me. They will use you up and spit you out! Beware!

    Advice to Management

You need to fire your top dead weight management at your Rosemount Houston office.

I have been working at Emerson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The positive Emerson reviews on Glass-door are inaccurate and mostly come from managers, HR, PR or interns. Many are probably completely fabricated

    Cons

During interviews they paint a picture of a stable company with a long history and great opportunity for advancement. However, promotions are only given to the backstabbing liars who become management pets. Management consistently lies to their own employees verbally, so as not to have a paper trail. This is an Emerson philosophy. Going to HR to complain just makes matters much worse resulting in retaliation. HR works for management only and are not there to protect employees. Very few women or minorities. Racist white men use slurs to refer to minorities and sexist remarks to degrade women. HR does nothing without proof unless employees hire attorneys. Emerson admits that salaries are well below market which becomes more evident the longer you work there. Promises are given verbally and are usually broken. Emerson stock has steadily declined for the past few years. Poor management, outsourcing and mistreating employees must be catching up with them.

    Advice to Management

Emerson management doesn't take advice, they only give it, and you'd better accept it or pay the price.

    Pros

Old company, will be around for a long time. If you're hired as or promoted to management, you'll be able to avoid accountability by blaming your employees for problems while taking credit for successes.

    Cons

Pay is ridiculously low. Employees are set up for failure by their management teams. They throw roadblocks in the way of productivity. Real training is non-existent. In fighting is common among managers, employees and departments. There is an "us versus them" mentality between management and employees. Managers don't care at all about employees' personal lives. Performance appraisals contain lies and HR is useless.

    Advice to Management

    Use the Golden Rule.

I worked at Emerson full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    High level managers compensated well

    Cons

Outsourcing jobs is the golden rule for Emerson. Most employees work in fear of losing their jobs, and many have been forced to train their foreign replacements or lose severance pay. Emerson is headquartered in Ferguson Missouri, and have outsourced so many jobs, it helped create the current jobless, low income environment in that region. Pay is much lower than market. Promotions mostly go to managers and supervisors. Managers, VP's and HR managers abuse power, and routinely retaliate if any employee challenges them.

    Advice to Management

Employees are the ones doing the work, treat them fairly.
