    Pros

Good management team who knows how to listen to their employees, provide good feedback, and provides accountability without being a bully. Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful coworkers. The Round Rock office is quite nice.

    Cons

The processes are hidden. They're written down, but not accessible unless you know who to ask for the location. This makes getting up to speed on how to interact with the groups outside your own correctly, effectively, and efficiently. Mostly learning by trial an error. Heavily dependent on oil and gas, which given current conditions has meant insecurity and tight budgets.

    Advice to Management

Keep trying to diversify away from oil and gas. It's lucrative, but overly volatile and dependent on geopolitics. Growth in the energy and petrochemicals areas would help to provide balance. Getting into new areas entirely wouldn't be terrible either.

    Pros

Large portfolio of business units with cross selling ability. World-wide foot-print. Good feed back to business units on state of business, direction, etc.

    Cons

Middle management not impressive. Typical engineers without people skills pretending to be people oriented. A fair degree of arrogance among personnel, typical engineering environment.

    Advice to Management

Learn to be servant leaders, instead of top-down. Quit wasting time on useless programs which do not benefit customers.

    Pros

Technology and approach was interesting at the time Great co-workers, decent project budgets. Opportunity for advancement if you were willing to move or travel.

    Cons

Lots of layoffs, good employees were let go because they didn't mesh with the corporate culture. Lack of communication between St Louis and remote locations and divisions. With distributed enterprise, lots of conference calls at odd hours of the day and lots of travel.

    Pros

Some bright and talented people do exist at Emerson. Free coffee in the break rooms. The cafe is decent too.

    Cons

Overall management was decent, there were some talented managers and there were some very fresh/new managers that have never been in a position of management. New managers are dangerous because they feel like they have to make every decision on their own.

    Advice to Management

When working with contractors, don't make promises of conversion and say that we are "employees" of the company and the 3 or 6 month contract is just a formality. In the end the same manager that told me that, walked me out the door right after he told me my contract ended. It wasn't his fault, but the company wasn't in as good of shape as originally thought. Management needs to work on breaking down the silos and properly train their employees as well. Most employees of the company worked 6-7 hours a week and did as little as possible. Managers are aware of this but they also perform the same behavior.. maybe better management would lead to better performance of employees which would lead to better performance of the company.

    Pros

Great Place to Work, Helpful people, Flexible Work environment, Management takes very good care of their employees, High impact/visible work

    Cons

Emerson is not a pay master. Hence compensation wise they could be a little bit more competitive. Employment locations arent that great if you are looking for a quick change.

    Pros

Stable company. An old warhorse. Always delivers a dividend. Plenty of cash and old money.

    Cons

Advancement is based on relationships - you better know somebody, otherwise, you are done. Management at corporate is out of touch. The magic touch is gone. The old habits of slash and cut, slash and cut has worn thin. If the CEO's grandmother's rent could be cut, this company would do it. Exhausting and ridiculous. Old habits die hard.

    Advice to Management

Stop the incessant cutting! Invest in your employees, no need to be so damn cheap with them. The healthcare is below average, and the salaries for your better employees in the trenches is embarrassingly low.
