I worked at Emerson full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I worked as a retail rep for Emerson calling on Home Depot, it was a good position that no longer exists because Home Depot broke their contract with Emerson back like in 2005, but the position was good for people who wanted to get some sales experience and who also don't yet have the experience that they need from a corporate atmosphere. There was lots of sales training that I continue to use to this day

    Cons

I remember management being a little arrogant, but over all there really weren't any cons that I can remember

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At this point all of the managers I dealt with from back then have probably moved on

I have been working at Emerson full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The management team is smart, honest, humble and stable. The stability allows the company to develop and follow management processes developed over decades to drive business results. Career development opportunities exceed the supply so anyone with the skill, ability and attitude has many opportunities to advance rapidly through the ranks, if that is your goal.

    Cons

The size of the company can make it slow. Approval levels can slow down the pace of change and can be frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow the business leaders you trust to have more autonomy to run their businesses.

    I worked at Emerson

    Pros

Emerson Electric Corporation invests in their employees. I have been able to experience many parts of a business. I have learned what it takes to manage a business in a highly successful corporation.

    Cons

Detailed reporting and planning does become time consuming. I question the benefit to the corporation vs. the cost on the division.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Emerson Electric Corporation has a best-in-class business planning process. I would suggest that this process be scale-able. Larger divisions should complete the planning process as currently designed. Smaller divisions would still participate in the process but have fewer requirements. Smaller divisions would still benefit from the process without investing as much time as larger divisions. Understanding the waterfall process, it is difficult to select which exhibits to scale back on. One simple way to impact effort would be to limit the slide count based on annual sales.

I have been working at Emerson

    Pros

Salary is competive for the role, as well as decent benefits. Vacation, Insurance, etc are competitive with the industry. Safety is a very high priority and management has your back.

    Cons

Not really too many cons. It is a big corporation so flexibility at times is limited on their end. Also outsource quite a bit of work to low cost countries.

I worked at Emerson full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay, benefits, potential to move within the organization to other companies in the portfolio, training opportunities. If you make smart choices you could spend your entire career in this company. Emerson has a portfolio of companies and the span the globe. Within my division alone was Intermetro Industries, Ridge Tool, Closet Maid, Insinkerator and there are Emerson climate tech, and others.

    Cons

I was laid off when the company moved work to PA and I didnt want to move. They were generous with my severance package, but I was a manager. I don't think the workers fared as well.

I have been working at Emerson full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The pay was good, the work was fun and I worked with a great group of people. I would recommend it. I was really disappointed when I was laid-off.

    Cons

There weren't really a lot of negatives, just that there is heavy travel and miles on your car. Otherwise it was really good.

    Pros

Stable, smart management who run the company's diverse business platforms through management processes developed and improved over decades. Politics are minimal.

    Cons

Can be slow to change. Sometimes can be too conservative. Some business platforms are much more progressive than others. Compensation and benefit levels are generally competitive, and the company focuses on rentention through career opportunity, good management and communication rather than being the top payer in any given location. Generally this works for them pretty well.
