I have been working at Emerson full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Solid Company. Very stable. Financially sound in every way. Pension AND a 401K. Reputation is impeccable. Work/life balance is respectable.

    Cons

Politics. Hitch your wagon to a horse, because if it is not, you go virtually nowhere. Advancement/promotions come...to those who are connected. Like I said, hitch your wagon.
Then take salary -- comp is below industry average. No bonuses either. Those are reserved for the top of the top of the highest levels. They get millions, you get nuthin.
Benefits are poor. They like to trumpet them as world-class, but in truth, they cost you an arm and a leg. Think a "car payment" just to get medical for your family. A new car payment.
Bottom line is: Emerson values people externally more than they value their own.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize the talent you already have. They are the ones upon whose backs you are making your million dollar bonuses and salaries. You have REAL TALENT in your midst, but you hardly care.
Break down the walls between divisions. There are few opportunities to move division to division...unless you know someone. HR attempts to block you to keep their talent to themselves.
Start paying the market vale for talent. You are encouraging many to leave. Does not bode well for when the boomers retire. Us young people will carry you forward...but only if you stop ignoring us.

I have been working at Emerson full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of training and decent opportunity to grow & be promoted. Great organizational culture. Large company with a lot of internal opportunities. Flexible schedule.

    Cons

Very large organisation, difficult to address all problems. Large inertia in changing. Difference in organisation and culture between the different business units. But steps are made to generalize the best practices within the entire company (all business units).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I had very good experience with upper management. Thank you & keep going,

I have been working at Emerson full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The management team is smart, honest, humble and stable. The stability allows the company to develop and follow management processes developed over decades to drive business results. Career development opportunities exceed the supply so anyone with the skill, ability and attitude has many opportunities to advance rapidly through the ranks, if that is your goal.

    Cons

The size of the company can make it slow. Approval levels can slow down the pace of change and can be frustrating.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow the business leaders you trust to have more autonomy to run their businesses.

    Excellent oppurtunity and career advancement

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Emerson

    Pros

Salary is competive for the role, as well as decent benefits. Vacation, Insurance, etc are competitive with the industry. Safety is a very high priority and management has your back.

    Cons

Not really too many cons. It is a big corporation so flexibility at times is limited on their end. Also outsource quite a bit of work to low cost countries.

I have been working at Emerson full-time

    Pros

Salary is good, fun benefits in many of the departments. Group is fun to work with. Challenging work at times. Company rewards those who work hard and stay with them long term. Good work-life balance, travel expectations are low for some positions.

    Cons

Not many training opportunities. Expects relocation throughout career, must be very mobile. Old school benefits, who still offers a pension? Company lacks diversity (of race, gender, and age) in many of the U.S. locations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hard to recruit top young talent with the benefits package that has not been updated in many decades. Spouses work (or like to) in the 21st century, hard to relocate a family w/o company support.
