Good solid work, opportunities to move up are possible if you're connected

    OPs Management (Former Employee)

ProsThe pros of the the company are the money and the benefits of being an employees. You can have a long career if you play good politics.

ConsToo much politics and nepotism. Too many engineers in business operations jobs and there is no true and honest filter on management. You can be targeted and forced to work without proper pay if it helps certain egos or feelings

Advice to Senior ManagementSpend more time making sure the people that are actually working in the company have more of a say so in what happens

ProsLots of dedicated workers trying to do the best!

ConsNot everyone is motivated and some have to pick up the slack, but I guess that's pretty much anywhere

Advice to Senior ManagementReward those who work to improve the atmosphere and quality of work! Keep lines of communication open between employees and upper management.

    Concerned about Entergy's future viability.

    Control Room Supervisor (Current Employee)

    ProsDefined benefit retirement plan.
Pay is good for the area.

ConsMost departments where I work are understaffed. Many employees are close to retirement and counting the days until they can retire. Knowledge transfer from older to newer workers has been poorly managed. Horrible attitudes within the workplace. We transition from 1 crisis to the next without time to catch our breath. Poor performers are not remediated/demoted/fired. Good performers are rewarded with more work.

Great place to start your career

    Engineer I (Current Employee)

    ProsGood stable job
Lots of opportunity to learn different things
The company is large so can move around and spend your whole career here

ConsNot the most high tech industry
    Somewhat out of touch management
Over reliance on external contractors to do engineering work

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to spend more time and focus on developing and training employees.
Focus more on doing the right thing and broaden the recruiting base.

Great benefits but the company was horrible with effective communication to their employees.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat employee benefits and training outside of customer service.

ConsConstantly changing policies without notifying employees of the changes within a timely manner. Everything had to go through corporate communication departments. It seemed that everyone was always in the "dark", even middle management in regards to where the company was going. Customer service was a joke - the company constantly hired new people to fill an empty seat.

Very stable, secure company to work for with real potential to advance under the right supervisor.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    New Orleans, LA

ProsWhile a relatively conservative company, many of the younger leaders are pushing for innovative ways to conduct business more effectively and efficiently.

ConsIt can be very frustrating in seeing projects through to fruition, mainly due to the layers and layers of bureaucracy and office politics that must be navigated. Also, the most qualified don't always get promoted to higher levels of management.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to get a better grasp on the importance of creating a more productive and open environment for younger employees as many of the employees are nearing retirement age.
