    Great internship experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGreat exposure, get to see the power plant, challenging and interesting, and allow you to learn things across groups

ConsAs with most internships, it is work for the employees to provide work for the interns, so some days were idle.

    Variety of opportunities; uncertain future

Electrical Engineer (Current Employee) Jackson, MS

ProsFlexible work schedule (8 10-hour days with every other Friday off); solid pay; good benefits; great variety of job opportunities and growth; very project-driven environment

ConsUncertain future: company has attempted to spin-off transmission business many times; weak training process for new employees; disconnect between upper level management and contributing employees

Satisfying work, plenty of room for advancement, though often extremely frustrating

    Supervisor (Current Employee) Lycoming, NY

ProsThe work is satisfying and everyone makes an impact. You are afforded the opportunity to learn and improve and can get plenty of help when you need it. The company is big on personnel safety, almost painfully so. There is plenty of room for advancement if you are willing to work hard and accept the responsibility. People are retiring left and right which creates openings for aspiring people.

ConsThere are major accountability issues. No one really seems to be held accountable for anything. Managers, supervisors, and individual contributors go to meetings late and unprepared without consequence. Bargaining unit employees are especially exempt from accountability. Completely useless employees with years of documented problems can't be touched as the company is afraid to make waves with the union. The lack of an accountability culture also means people tend to not own and fix many issues under their control, which is frustrating. Part of this is due to under-staffing. Staffing would probably be sufficient, but based on the amount of bureaucracy, it is hard to get work done which means we need more people. Finally, as with any utility, there are times when you are going to have to work nights and weekends.

Advice to Senior ManagementEnforce an accountability culture at all levels. Reduce administrative burdens or hire more people to share the burdens.

    Very satisfying

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) New Orleans, LA

ProsGood people to work with, good balance between personal and professional life, good senior management, nice place if you get to live in New orleans/Houston!

Conslike any workplace one has to play the internal game but it wasn't too bad. you get benefit if you are a local - may work in your favor!

Advice to Senior Managementoverall great job, practicing diversity and equal opportunity for prmotions at all levels (specially lower, mid levels where senior management do not have direct control) will make it much better.

A Staff Accountant's Review of Entergy

Accountant (Current Employee) New Orleans, LA

ProsRoom to grow while staying within the same company. Experience in the utility industry. Training is provided to encourage career growth.

ConsPoor health insurance and benefits. Incompetent middle management and failure of senior management to recognize the issue.

Advice to Senior ManagementEntergy is generally a good place to work, however, management needs to open its eyes to the real issues of the company. The company will not be successful if middle management is unable to follow through on the desires of senior management.

Nuclear, On the Rebound and the Next Hot Industry

Senior Electrical Engineer (Current Employee) Russellville, AR

ProsSalaries are high for this area. A clean and safe work enviroment with a heavy focus on personnal safety.

ConsStressful at times and if a Nuclear Unit trips offline it can mean long hours and call out. This is not an exciting or cutting edge high tech technical career path. Nuclear is a technically conservative business by necessity.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more employees. We have lost a lot of skilled people through attrition and we are beginning to feel the effect, big time.

    Great company in my opinion

    Engineer II (Current Employee)

ProsCompetitive salary, benefits, vacation, etc. Most people are a joy to work with. Moving around within the company is encouraged, especially if you want to advance. Many job changes that require a move allow most moving expenses to be covered by the company's relocation package. Consideration for families, including flexible schedules and alternating Fridays off.

ConsThe work atmosphere tends to vary among the many locations. Some locations tend to over work employees more than others. The employee evaluation/rating system is antiquated, too simplified, and does not take into account all of the various factors that make a good employee.

Advice to Senior ManagementMost of the management I have encountered is actually there for a reason, and that is a good thing. Continue to promote those individuals that are knowledgeable and capable of the increased responsibility. Adopt a new method of evaluating employees that paints a clearer picture of what each person brings to the table.
